In case you are using WindowsXP: - For a free and easy tool use windows movie maker which can be found in start->programs->accesories->entertainment. In case you do not have it it can be installed from the microsoft website at www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/moviemaker2.mspx
for some shareware(not completely free or trial basis) visit http://www.canadiancontent.net/tech/download/Fancy_Movies_Editor_%28movie_maker%29.html
last resort google on "freeware video editor/ clip joiner"
and choose the best option you can find. hope this helps

moviemaker is the software which by default comes with the windows xp OS.
The other option is virtualdub which is a open-source application widely used for all vidoe editing operations.

you need a software VCD Cutter. you will be able to edit etc.
