The Wright Flyer (often retrospectively referred to as Flyer I and occasionally Kitty Hawk) was the first powered aircraft designed and built by the Wright brothers. It is considered by many to be the first successful powered, piloted aircraft. It was made in 1903. This wasn't really the first aircraft. It was the first successful piloted aircraft.

1903, Orville Wright.
Wilbur and Orville Wright were the creators of the aircraft in which the first manned flight in a powered aircraft was made. On Monday, December 14th, 1903 in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, where Wilbur and Orville assembled the "Flyer", there was a coin toss to decide who should have the first trial. Wilbur won. With Wilbur at the controls, the aircraft climbed a few feet, stalled and settled to the ground. It was in the air for three and a half seconds.
On December 17th, with a 27 mph wind and Orville now at the controls, the aircraft flew for 12 seconds and 120 feet. That was considered first flight. Had there been a calm wind, the distance would have been 540 feet.
The Wright Flyer flew three more times that day, the longest flight 59 seconds. The aircraft sustained slight damage upon landing, repairable in a day or two, but a gust of wind tumbled it before they secured it and subsequent flights were scrapped for the rest of the year.

Usually Wright brothers are considered the first builder of a flying airplane, and the first to take of in 1903.
But this is not true.
The first was Gustave Whitehead, actually Gustave Weisskopf, born in Germany. He moved to USA and he built a flying machine(Nr.21) and made it fly in 1901, more than 2 years before Wright's flyier, and the first was about 2500m long at height of 15m, and some people saw his flight.
In 1902 he flied with Nr.22, powered by a diesel engine,in circle for about 11km at 60m of altitude.
At that time the news was reported by 2 newspapers, but history almost forgot this.
