I find it hard to credit that some people are so lazy they will buy stuff like pre-chopped vegetables. I mean, how long does it take to chop a carrot?!! And ready-prepared bolognese sauces in jars: how long does it take to chop an onion and open a can of tomatoes, cos that's basically all that's in there.
And 'easy-cook' rice in stupid little plastic bags: what's all that about? Rice is already about the easiest thing to cook you can possibly find! This kind of thing is such a waste of money.

I'm totally with you. I think it is beyond laziness to buy chopped vegetable. And all the extra packaging is very damaging to the environment.

Ready made sauces can have thier place as they can save a great deal of time, but most are so easy to make yourself that if you made a large batch you can freeze or jar plenty to use at you convenience in the future.

This kind of laziness/dependence on convenience food and products is why the world and environment is in such an awful state!!!!!

I worry about the future generation, they will not know how to cook. Mum is busy working and trying to look after the family so she resorts to ready meals, cant blame her, but do the children know where the food actually comes from or how it is prepared? Unless the child is really interested the art of cooking will be lost. That is why I think all these cooking programmes are good. Hopefully the will create interest in cooking for some of the population.

Some people simply don't have the time go "old school" in their cooking methods. I do when I can because I enjoy it however, I generally only have 15-20 minutes to prepare a full meal for my family before I'm off to school during the work week. It's easier for me to pop a top than chop and chop.

i love to cook but i have to admit there are times that i cheat (esp now that i work over night and sleep during the day---and i like to have a hot meal when i get up). I wil buy the chopped onions and seasoning, and i cheat with rice (i have a tendency to burn it)
I think it isn't being lazy its about time, yes i wish I had time to do all the prep and cooking and cleaning but i rather take a few shortcuts and have time to sit down with my friends and enjoy a meal before i have to go towork

I agree, part of the enjoyment of food is in the preparation. And if you use everything that is so fully, overly processed (like the rice) the nutrients are diminished greatly. I thoroughly enjoy cooking, sharing dishes with family and friends and giving the recipes away as well.

Finally! Someone who agrees with me. I thought I was alone. I have to admit, I do buy the packages of pre chopped/cleaned greens because they are time consuming to clean. No jar sauces, parboiled rice, or box dinners for me.

Well it is this new age, convience and more convience, more and more people cant cook so supermarkets sell it all ready peeled and chopped up for us all we have to do is cook it. An expensive way but someone must want it or the shops wouldnt sell it.

Because we live in a hurry-hurry, instant gratification kind of world that has forgotten how to appreciate the value of hard work. If you can get it fast, cheap and easy ... why work for it? Apparently it doesn't matter that working for it actually tastes better and is better for you because we've got to hurry-hurry .... Joey's got soccor practice, I'm late for a doctor's appointment, Jenny's got ballet lessons, Julia's got piano lessons, the car is do at the shop for a tune-up, and dear hubby needs to be to the airport in 30-minutes for his flight to tomorrow's business meeting.

Some have never learned and some don't have time. I have no dishwasher, I bake everything from scratch, make homemade noodles and pasta and sauces. Do all my prep work myself from as many fresh ingredients as I can. All because I was taught when I was young and I'm retired and have time now.

i agree i think it is just because some people dont know how to cook so they buy prepared foods just to heat up, or another reason is that people are so busy these days with work and family that they dont have time to stay and cook.
