If you believe in that then you should stick to your values, but it doesn't make any real difference if you ask him or not. I'm sure he'll be pleased for you when you and your girlfriend get engaged. I wish you and her all the best x

I think if you want to be traditional... then it would be a good thing to ask the father... it means a great deal to them if you ask them... though... if you love her and her father doesn't give you his blessing... that doesn't mean it's the end of it... remember... you'll be marrying her... not her father... but for the most part... the father will give his blessing... he's interested in what's good for and what will make her happy... ;)

A friend just did that last weekend - it went down a storm with the future in laws who now see him as a respectful kinda guy who will surely make good husband material (always good to get them on side early on) - besides the gf thought it dead romantic - so it's a thumbs up from me

Oh thats nice , Jimmy, but i think it would surely be better to ask her first and if she says yes to tell her you want to ask her father, and when she says What if he says no? Then you say, we'll get married anyway sweetheart! So, then you say to her father 'I have asked Sweetheart to marry me, and she said yes, so i hope you and Sweetheart's mum are happy about this, cos I love her and will cherish her always.

I think it's absolutely romantic that you're asking her father. She'll think it's sweet too. Stick to traditional and you can't go wrong. Congratulations.

I dont think its done anymore, you may as well just pop the question to her.
But I suppose it all depends on how traditional their family is.

It shows respect and consideration. Nothing wrong with it. But I would actually ask her first (if I were you).
My hubby asked me first, then went to my parents for permission. its sweet and thoughtful.

My fiance asked my dad and it was lovely, my Dad said he would be proud to have him as a son - isn't that sweet!
I think its a lovely thing to do and shows her family that you are serious about it too.
