I want to say this first. Just think of it this way. If the problem was there before, its going to be while your doing it and then after so cutting yourself is not a solution. You must find out why your cutting yourself and find more positive or healthy ways to deal with it

Cutting yourself is not going to make the stress and other things in your life go away.

One you can see a therapist or/and speak with a dr and see if that is a better way for you to go.

When your stressed instead of picking up a sharp object. What do you like to do for activies, playing games, drawing, listening to music, taking a walk, dance. These are productive and good healty ways to deal with it. These are some things that I do, but i would never cut myself. I would never give anyone the satisfaction they got to me.

my counselor suggested jumping into a cold shower..cuz it shocks you a bit. But if you don't want to get completely wet the ice cube trick mentioned above by someone else would work too. Hang in there, I'm a cutter too and I try to find other ways to deal with stress, just don't beat yourself up if you do slip up and cut yourself. All you can really do is keep trying. Good Luck :)

Um if it the pain you want- then hold an ice cube or flick yourself with an elastic band round your wrist.
If its the destruction you want- then maybe tear up some paper or an old piece of clothing.
If its more to do with needing to do something physical- try punching pillows, using clay, making physical art
If it the distracion you need- go for a walk or do something that takes you away from the situation you are in.
If its the sight of blood you want- the best one i could come up with (cause i used to self harm) is to draw on my arms with red ink.

I hope that is of some use....I know how crap it when you so badly want to cut....but so badly don't want to cut too :)

Oh yeah another one I've done is too eat really hot food....so hot all you can think about is cooling your mouth....

This is too serious. Mental Health Professional. This does not mean you are nuts, just means you have an issue that needs to be dealt with and corrected. Why put yourself through this. Be good to YOU! Get fixed up, and you can, now go and take care of business. Make a phone call to a therapist for starters and the rest will fall into place for you. We are all messed up in our heads for one thing or another. Just go fix it....done. Good luck my friend!! :)

I used to cut too! What helped me to stop cutting:

1. I have a son that means the world to me
2. Stopped associating with all the negative people in my life
3. Set aside time to do the things I enjoy (shopping!)
4. Got put on an anti depressant
5. Remembering that just cuz things are ****** up now, it doesnt mean that they will always be!

nicely, you need to purpose ice cubes. conserving ice on your hand or on your physique grants you the discomfort that enables, without inflicting any relatively harm. i think of somebody else suggested a rubber band, that can artwork - even although this is obviously no longer as painful as reducing. this could be somewhat own - yet is there something in specific this is making you experience this way? I basically ask because of the fact now and back very sensible purpose orientated issues can help. E.g. steps you may take to strengthen your self self belief, make certain themes on your existence and so forth.

A good one is taking an icecube and squeezing it...the cold from it feels like a kind of burning feeling + you are doing no physical harm to yourself! Here is a site with some good ideas for redirecting your thoughts:
