Jimmy Swaggart....Jim Baker....Ernest Angly....Jesse Jackson....pedophile priests....now Ted Haggard....when will the hypocrisy stop? When will the scandals stop? Ted Haggard: "I am a deceiver and a liar, etc. etc. etc.". "An overflow crowd APPLAUDED after Haggard's statement was read....(in the church from which he was fired). They APPLAUDED?!?! Stockstill: "....the week's events were an opportunity to help the nation.I believe America need's a shaking spiritually......" Haggard screws up royally and America needs a shaking spiritually---that's rich. This is called "spin" folks. You know what this means, don't you? In a few months, Haggard will have his own tv show and rake in the millions. I'd say that religion is the devil's playground, except that there is no such thing as the devil. And good old Ted will be there with all the aforementioned singing "when the roll is called up yonder I'll be there". They actually APPLAUDED! HA! When will you religious types ever learn?

Many Christians I've known can empathize with those people because they do the same thing, sneak around and commit adultery, steal, cheat, that sort of thing. Seriously, there is an emotional masochism in certain people that makes religion very attractive to them -- heaven knows (pun) there is a load of masochism and guilt in Christianity, which many Christians enthusiastically suffer and rejoice in.

Some masochists are drawn to Christianity because it supports their "me sinner / me saved" emotionally self-punishing psychosis.

I don't know what to think about this, really I don't. I'm just amazed at how many people support such a hypocritical man and then turn a finger on the "secular" world and call us evil. I am quickly losing what little tiny bit of respect I had for Evangelicals (respect in the sense that they are human and can make mistakes) - but this is outrageous. It appears that it's alright to claim to be of God and delivering God's Law while breaking God's law... then say "I'm sorry" and suddenly you are in God's favor again... while me being a Pagan is a Satanic thing, even though I don't do such outrageously hypocritical things and then try to call myself "good".

And looking at some of the answers here, they are still making excuses! "well, he's just human". Yes, we know that he's just human... so am I. So is the poster of this question. So is every Non-Believer you ever run across. This is blatant hypocricy and I hope this forces the Gov't to become completely Secular. Or at the very least, cut ALL churches Tax Exemptions. Quit giving them Gov't Funding all together. Then we just might see a decline in this type of behavior.

BTW, has anyone seen anything concerning him buying illegal drugs? Are charges being brought up for this? Or is our Gov't going to pull the same thing his own church members did... "Oh, well, he said SORRY!"

That proves that we are all sinners. We are born in sin-- we all fall short in God's eyes. That's why He sent Jesus. But the problem is POWER and LOVE of MONEY gets in the minds of even the ones supposedly serving the Lord.

You are a sinner, too-- God look at any sin in the same way-- big and small, whether you are Christians, non-Christians, whatever you are.

So before you are allowed by God to criticize others, Jesus said to check your own heart first. Check the "dirt" in your eyes before you start throwing darts at others. Do you have a pure heart? Remember that a sin is something that is against God's commands. You are already judged by God by judging these people if you are full of sins yourself. Jesus said those who have not sinned, throw the first stone to people who sinned. If you do "throw" the stone to others and you are a sinner, too-- what that makes you? Don't you think that you are a hypocrite yourself? Think about it.

Next time you check yourself and your heart, be honest in what you see. *smile*

That does goes to show how hypicritical they are. If someone who did not claim their faith did the same thing, there would be an uproar.

That is very wrong. They condemn gay people but forgive and cheer one of their own for going against their own teaching.

I have never cared for televangelism--televangelists rake in way too much money instead of being humble preachers like Jesus.
Too much money and fame corrupts them, and their followers' hard-earned donation money can easily end up being spent on foolishness such as sexual trysts and crystal meth.

You assume I am a religious nut case: you are wrong.

All men and women have feet of clay.

Religion is about forgiveness and making yourself a better person. Some people get all caught up in the myth they are supposed to be perfect and they cannot be anything other than human.

Did someone do something to you? I know, it's a bad thing that these people get up there and preach one thing, but live another, but these are all human beings, subject to make some kind of mistake. You yourself don't know what kind of situation you may find yourself in before you leave this earth. You have a sin nature and that can make you susceptible to any form of ungodliness. This is what happens in these peoples' situation. Don't get mad and frustrated at God because of man's mistakes. We all have choices in life. I guess the people applauded because maybe they're having their own struggles and to see someone in a higher position admit that they don't have it all together gives them some kind of justification or something, but it doesn't. Everyone has to get it right with God for themselves. Don't' be so quick to throw a stone. You may just get several thrown back at you.

Christianity is one of the easiest religions to follow. You can essentially do whatever you want, then just ask God to forgive you and presto.. you're back in good.

That's one thing I don't really like about Christianity, no taking responsibility for your own actions.. "Oh, the devil made me do it.." "Oh, it was temptation.." You rarely ever hear a Christian say.."You know what? I screwed up and it's no one's fault but my own."

So, you are blaming the majority of Christians for the acts of a few bad people? Gosh. Now I understand how Muslims must feel regarding what the 19 murderers of 9/11 did.
