First of all, it is heartbreaking for any Christian to be involved in sin. But when a person in leadership is accused or admits to wrongdoing, it is often disappoints and hurts those who have looked up to him. Now, our culture has a morbid fascination with scandal, and when a leader falls, he often is subject to judgement and ridicule by the media and those who follow it.

Allow me to offer this simple reminder: our leaders are just as covered by God's grace and mercy as we are. Regardless of stature or influence or what type of wrongdoing has occurred, God's mercy is not bound by anything. In our world, we like to think that Karma will come back for those who have done wrong, and for those who have been a great disappointment, God punish then with extra severity. But God's grace is sufficient, even when our own is not. Bono, the lead singer for U2, says in the the song "Grace": Grace travels outside of karma.

I ask that if you are aware of a Christain who has stumbled into sin (leader or no), please pray for him. Our brother in Christ who has been the subject of so much media fodder, regardless of his guilt or innocence, needs God's strength to endure scandal and humiliation. It is not our job to judge and whisper and point fingers, but it is our job to pray and offer our own forgiveness and our own stregnth to those struggling with sin.
