It is your day! The one thing you shouldn't do is bow to society's pressure. If you don't really want the traditional but you feel it is expected, get over it. Plan the wedding of your dreams, within your budget and have fun! It's all about YOU ( and him I suppose too). Congrats!!!!!

I am going through the same thoughts right now. I've never been the one to do things b/c others have told me their way was right. I also do not have the luxuary of spending crazy money on a wedding before or after.
You should do what is important to you both. It's your union. No one else's. Ask the JP what the limit of people present are. If the number is less then your immediate family, that may answer your delema. Each state is different.
And of course, have a party afterwards how ever you both want! Celebrating is your right. How you choose to live this moment in your lives is your choice. That can not be taken away from you.
Either way, make sure you have some pictures of the day. That would probably be my only must. Even if it's disposable!
Have a great time, listen to your hearts and good luck!!

It all depends on you and your situation. You can still have a traditional wedding without all the "hoop la" and not spend a lot of money, and not have all the tension and stress.
Have a small church wedding with just your closest friends and family attending, with a small reception afterward. Or simply go to the justice of the peace and have a gathering later.

I married at JP. With no big party afterward. Just a few close family members. We had no time because my husband was joining the military. He's promised me a big wedding on our 10 year anniversary. We will probably take out a 40-50 thousand dollar loan so we can do it big. Waste no money the first time and if it lasts a long time, then you can renew your vows and go big.

I cannot answer that for you. The answer is within you. You need to know what is best for yourself. My brother got married on a glacier and none of his family was there but then he had a 3 day party months after wards. For myself, I would want a traditional wedding but not a big one. My immediate family and close friends because I would miss not having that. Follow your HEART.

Having a traditional wedding doesn't have to cost alot. I would recommend having a small traditional wedding and having a party afterwards. You can buy beautiful wedding gowns at consignment stores for nearly nothing and nobody knows that it wasn't new unless you tell them. I bought my wedding dress, bridemaid dresses and flower girl dresses for $350 for all of them. They were all beautiful.

It really depends on what YOU & your FIANCE want to do.
You could also have an officiant conduct a small wedding where a few family & friends could attend, & then throw a bash. Or you could hold the ceremony at the reception venue. It can be as elegant as any other venue. I'm about to conduct such a ceremony. The bride has chosen a local state park lodge.

well that depends on you..but most ppl go to the justice of the peace because of money wise..then do a large party afterwards..because they can't afford the traditional wedding..so if your on a budget and can't afford it, justice of the peace you go

Depending on how much money you want to spend, do it that way. If you would like to save money, go to the justice of peace, and just have family or close friends with you. Either way a party afterwords is always fun!:)
