OK..went o a lounge the other night,bought one drink,used my check card,signed it..now the bank tells me the business put a 40.00 hold on my account,causing me to have an overdraft..I called the business,they said,they thought I wanted to run a tab..I didn't tell them I wanted to run a tab..now the bank is charging me a bunch of money for non sufficiant funds..the money is there,but they are charging me anyway..what to do..this is so wrong...

Alright, you will need to go to the bank and talk to someone and let them know what happened and then ask them if they would please deny the charge to the lounge. Go to the lounge speak to a manager and tell them what happened because they assumed something.And tell them that they are legally responsible for all the charges from the bank and from anyone who recieved and NSF. Pay them cash for the drink that you bought . If you have a decent bank they should work with you on this. I had a very similar thing happen to me as well. It is a pain in the behind but if you want it fixed you have to do it.

They do it all the time. When you rent a car the rental company will deduct the estimated full rental cost before they give you the car. When you use one to check into a hotel the full cost of all of the nights will be deducted from your account. When you buy gas and prepay they will take out more than the estimated total just in case.

They can do it because it is in the contract you signed when you got the card. Avoid using it for those kind of expenses for that reason.

legally this is sooo not wrong . you just didn't learn until to late how the game you signed for is played.
using a check card with out a 500$ reserve is financially expensive and naive.
yes the biz can put a hold on the account.
the biz didn't cause you to have a overdraft, sorry you did.
you played with snake and got bitten.
