I want to remain respectful when speaking to my mother...because well she brought me into the world and, with my step-dad, raised me.
But she is driving me nuts. I don't think she knows that she speaks in a hurtful manner to me. My mom is somewhat politcally active and is trying to force me to be as well. She frequently uses a derogatory tone when she speaks to me when I don't understand something. How do I politely and respectfully speak to my mother about her rude tone....without her wanting to kick me out (yes, i still live at home, it's just cheaper for me right now). I love my mom, but she is making me crazy and I want to slap her in public!!

I commend you for wanting to remain respectful to her even if she is not respecting you to some degree.
I would suggest telling her, when she starts trying to get you politcally active, in a very calm low voice manner, that her interests are not your own. Dont argue. Theres no point to it and you will lose anyways. When she gets condescending, tell her so in a calm voice. Dont yell. If you need to go to your room or leave the house, do so. She sounds like a smart woman. She will realize at some point that she is only pushing you away from her.

I guess you can let her know that what and how she speaks to you, hurts you deeply. You dont need to be mean or rude about it.
Perhaps something is bothering her. Perhaps she feels torn in
thinking that you should be on your own....and yet she may still wish to have you at home. So she could simply be fighting with herself, and UNknowingly taking it out on you. Today, she obviously realized SOMETHING, to apologize to you!

Whatever she says she still and always loves you.Mothers can get on your nerves sometimes and although we say that we hate them or call them names we regret it like 10mins after we say it!!
My mother is like that too sometimes i do throw a fit and get mad for awhile but just tell her you dont like the way she speaks to you.If people in skool talked to you like that your mother would tell you to stick up 4ya self well she is doin the same thing so stick up 4ya self.Dont be afraid!!!!!!!!!Good luck!
