Why did you perm it so much? Well, first of all stop perming, then cut the ends, try deep conditioning once a week and use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.

You don't tell us over what time frame did you perm '5' times!! Nor was it a 'home' perm situation!!
Hair grows about 1/3 to 1/4" inch per month!! So it is obvious it will take time to grow out to the length you like.
Depending on how 'fried' (and it will usually be the ends of the shaft) your locks are my suggestion is go to your favorite hairdresser, let him/her make the determination of what needs to be done in relation to 'trimming' the damage as he/she gives you a good base to begin the recovery. Most good stylists will likely recommend 'trimming' all the damaged areas; there might be some areas that can't be immediately cut out but can be controlled to suit a particular style.
But that is not where the 'buck' stops!! It is paramount for you to carry out a strong 'in-home' routine of conditioning. But then again that is something we all should be doing so your situation is not unique from this aspect.
Use a good product for shampooing and conditioning -- these don't have to be expensive name brands at a salon but good product is available in your drug store. There are so many exciting brands at excellent pricing for great quality.
If you want to perm your hair in the future, let a reputable professional do it!! Home perms are great, provided you understand there is more to it than rolling, pouring, waiting, and neutralizing; most of us 'home permers' don't see the exact condition of our hair, how to roll a rod properly, and this is were we make our '1st' mistake; once the chemicals are applied it is too late. At least at a salon the staff is trained for this procedure. If something goes wrong they know how to fix it. I do not know of any salon that would give a client 5 perms unless it is over a couple years!!!
So be patient, hair grows back. In the meantime, if you do go 'shorter' have fun with the many exciting styling opportunities available to you until you get it to the length you desire.
Good luck and have fun!!!!

Get to a beauty salon immediately and have a deep conditioning treatment. It sounds like you have overprocessed and damaged your hair. If you were perming your hair on your own -- Thats a HUGE no no. Never ever ever perm your own hair, Perms have to be done professionally and also, once you perm- you must take care of your hair everyday. It needs to be moisturized + wrapped every night with a silk scarf. You will need to use a good shampoo + conditioner like Dove Intense Moisture and get the hair moisturizer called PERM REPAIR. It will help correct alot of the damage caused by the perm.

Get a conditioning mask like Butter Treat by Redken...u can get it at a salon. Put it on your hair before bed, and cover your head wth a plastic bag and sleep with it on your hair. Wash it out in the am. This wont fix your hair, but it will make it softer and shinier for a bit.
Get some repairing products, like Redken's Anti-Snap and CAT Protien Treatment. These put the protein and other nutrients back into your hair that the perm chemicals have taken out. If you use these for a while, you will see great improvement.

My hair was the same. So, I got on Answers, and the best answer I got was to start using Joico products. I use the whole line: K-Pak shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, reconstructing spray and the protect and shine serum. My hair is soft and shiny now!! I have only been using it for a little over a month, and my hair looks sooo healthy. It actually works!

try using a good shampoo and conditioner, like patene prov ice shine, use a leave in conditioning treatment to go along with it. Do not get your hair permed again. When it starts to grow out make sure you are getting it trimmed regularly, about every 3 months. Other then that talk to your stylist.

Get some deep conditioning treatment and wrap hair in a towel and sit under a hooded hair dryer for awhile. Keep doing this until it gets back into good shape.
