Let's hypothetically say that this is all god wants from us and isn't worried about if we think he exist. (and what sould you think if somone say, "oh yeah, God exists, but I don't believe that his commandments are good for me". You can plug in the words in parenthesis if you're a pantheist.

1.You shall not have any other gods (before The Cosmos).

2. You shall not worship images.

3. You shall not be a hypocrite.
Defaming God The Cosmos with lies and taking his name in vain shall bring you trouble.

4. Remember to take a rest from work

5. Honor your parents.

6. You shall not murder.

7. You shall not commit adultery.

8. You shall not steal.

9. You shall not speak lies against people.

10. You shall not be greedy.

Well, I don't believe in any gods, but I'll go along with all but 1 and 3 as you state them here. 7 is up to the couple, I think - as long as they agree on it one way or another. 5 & 8 are other case-by-case ones, excusable in certain hardships, but following them should be the default.

To answer your question, though, some do believe in god but not as described in the bible. There are followers of other teachings around the world, and also those who develop their own personal view & path.

Why do you have such a deep-seated "need" to have someone else (either a pastor, a politician, or a made-up "god") dictate to you what you should and shouldn't do? Aren't you capable of making moral choices on your own, without being told that it's a "commandment?" You really need something or somebody to tell you "you shall" and "you shall not" do this or that?
I have no such need for someone or something to tell me what's right or wrong, or to try and control my actions. I'm an intelligent, responsible person who can make my own decisions about right and wrong. And I don't need to make up any kind of "god" (even calling it "the cosmos") to justify my decisions. I'm sad for you that you do.

Following the Nine Noble Virtues already makes us Asatruar in alignment with your commandments, for the most part. "Honor" seems to cover most of it, actually. Don't know why xtians need so many different times to be told to have honor.

And one other thing, while we're here:
"Believe in" and "Worship" are two totally different things. I wish people would start understanding that!

Do I BELIEVE in the xtian god? Yup.

DO I WORSHIP the xtian god? Nope.

I WORSHIP Odinn, and Vali, and Vidar and Freyr and Frigga and Thor and Eir and.......

That's normal and I think it's not wrong. I'm not religious, I think God does exists, but, I'm not agree with many things of Bible. Is that wrong? I don't know. But I prefer to live according to the love rules, love my family, my friends, my neighbor, the nature, animals, respecting everybody.... that's my guide to live, and I guess God likes it.

If someone says this to me, I would just think that they are not prepared right now to follow any self principled convictions whatsoever. They should however, contemplate doing so as soon as possible, in so way or form, for tomorrow may never come, and they will have to travel this ground again until they get it right.

Milk said... Even Satan knows that God exists...

Interesting. I never looked at it that way. You've got me thinking.

So what does 'believe in him' mean?

Even Satan knows that GOD exists.
It's not enough for you to know he exists, you have to BELIEVE IN HIM! :-)

That sounds perfectly reasonable to me, actually.
