I could not go to Hawaii with my husband because I have children here with my ex-husband. I desire somekind of support system for wives that cannot go with thier husbands....He just got back from Iraq in Feb and now is in Hawaii for 36 months and my friends do not understand what I, as well as several other military wives go through. Books do not cut it and I'm sick of hearing "you knew this would happen" from naysayers. So..is there a support system out there that is reputable?

Hi! My husband went to Japan for two years without me and then Iraq for seven months. I joined a few Yahoo! Groups that are specifically for Marine/Army/etc. wives... they're really helpful and everyone has a different situation, so someone is bound to be in yours and you could even make a lifelong friendship!!! I built a website during all the time he was gone too, and maintained it.. that's fun. I was on LiveJournal, which is like a place to blog, but you can also join communities of your interest. I know what you mean when you say, "my friends do not understand"... good luck and if you want to talk to me, just e-mail me from the link in my profile!!!

It looks as if you got the short end of the stick here. I feel so bad for you. It does look like you got some great advice here, especially about the FRG. Contact his unit and maybe they can put you in contact with someone local with you.

As for the ex, it sound as if he's just being a grade-A b.astard. He should let you take those kids with you to Hawaii. If not, then you can go visit your husband by flying Space-A (Space Available). That's military flights that go all over the world and the seats that are empty they will give to whoever wants them for free. You should talk to a travel agent on base to find out more.

Good luck!!!

If your husband is no longer in irak he should be able to help you out as far as finding a support group. He can call Army Comunity service. They should be able to help both of you finding a support group near your house. There is also a FRG( family readinnes group) for every unit. Yous husbands firts seargent should know who is the point of contact and they will help you out. They work with the unit so they know whats going on all the time and they will let you know any resources available to you. There is also a bunch of groups online, Type military spuse support groups and you will find a bunch. Good luck to you.

Contact the recruiting office in your town or the nearest town. You can call them or contac them in person. You can also go online to the army website and check there for assistance. There will be support groups at the nearest base to where you are, even though it might be a ways off. There most likely will be a support group at the Reserve Center nearest your home also with the amount of Reservists that have been called to Active Duty.
Keep you chin up, it will be hard, but you will be proud of yourself when you are back with your husband and you can see that you made it while he was gone.
Best of Luck

Key Volunteers through the marine corp and also links through USMC are very beneficial!! I learned sooo much and the base near you will have groups for the wives to get together and talk about everything that you as a dependant will have to go through...like your spouses deployment, day care, shopping on base or online to get a discount with your military ID....There are so many resources that are out there for a military spouse.

I agree with everyone to check at a military instillation near you. Also if I were you I would go to base legal and find a way to get permission to take your kids to Hawaii. There is no way I would spend all that time away from my husband if his post was accompanied. You never know when the next deployment will be time is too precious not to fight to be together.

Get in touch withthe nearest base of the service that he is in and contact the Chaplain's office. The Red Cross could be of some assistance. There are organizations in the services which take care of just this matter.

Girl I have yet to know of one. Isn't that sad we don't have any type of group just to get together and bond. I supposedly had a key volunter call me and get my information for future functions for military wifes with husbands that are deployed. Its been six months, my husband is coming home next month and I have yet to get any invit's or phone calls! that is pathetic!

You can call Military One Source. They should be able to let you know if something is available in your area. If you are interested send me an email, I'm not posting a phone number on here that some of these nut jobs will crank.

you can look online. Plenty of people are dealing with Unacompanied orders.

try www.military.com and their forums.

You are going to have to find your own support network.
Any reason why you couldn't get an adjustment on the custody agreement in order to move to Hawai'i? maybe meet the ex half way when it comes to visitation/expenses sharing?
