I'd tend to agree that if you think of them as a hassle, tattoos are probably not for you. Well, probably; it depends on what you mean by "worth it". If you're getting it for yourself, then I lean more towards it being worthwhile, even though the decision ultimately lies with you. Is there a reason you're family would find out? If it's small and out of the way - you don't mention location so I don't know - they could easily never find out. If it's that big of a deal & unavoidable, moving out first might be a good idea. You hear lots of stories about people who regret for the same reason you hear lots of stories about people who win the lottery. One person ranting to high heaven will easily outshout those of us who calmly say "no problem here". Statistically, something like 1 in 9 people will regret their tattoos, and even that breaks down further into not liking a given tattoo and such, but there is still the squeaky wheel factor. Sorry for not giving you a more precise answer, but this is a tricky question. They aren't for everyone, and like any permanent commitment not something to just jump into, but for some people very much worth it.

First of all make sure it is something that you would still like 40 years from now because gravity will mess it up in the future. Now you can get a small butterfly on the shoulder or a little heart that way it is not too visiable. You still have to maintain respect from employers.

Try to find something that not everybody else has. I steered clear of the tribal design on the lower back because EVERY girl has that! Look for something unique that will stand out because you don't see it every single day. I opted for a nude pixie on my shoulder blade. It is kinda goth looking, and even though she is nude it is not trashy or sexual in any way, and I've never met another girl who also had a nude female tattoo. Even my own mother likes it, and she hates tattoos.
Just be unique.

Where is your current tat located?
And can we see some photos of it?
Now, another tat, eh?
What design are you gonna get?
This is important 'cause you'll either want people to see it or not.
And if you want people to see it, you can't, ya know, put it where the sun don't shine.

If you are having to ask, you probably dont need to get one. You should get something that is special to you, and has some meaning. don't just get one for the sake of getting one.

If you dont know, dont get the tat.
A tat is supposed to be personal, mean something. If you dont already have something in mind, then you should wait until you do.
