my girlfriend is a hairdresser, and with little kids she always uses a line called "Bed Head".

if i'm not mistaken, they have a line that is made just for kids (wont hurt her eyes if it gets in by accident), its meant to avoid tangles and stuff, and they have a bunch of them for special stuff too (thicker hair, dry hair, colored hair, etc.).

she sells a lot of it to parents, and they always seem happy. give it a try. hope it works out for you.

You don't have to look beyond your drug store shelves for a shampoo for her, there are a number of products on these shelves that do a good job, that includes the 'tearless' types available.

Hair will always be 'tangly' some more than others so while looking for a shampoo keep your eye out for a product that addresses that situation.

As for the "stringy" part of your question, sounds like maybe you are not getting the child's hair properly rinsed!! You don't indicate if this is occurring right after the wash or if it is a couple days down the road. If it is the latter, I would suggest you wash her hair a little bit sooner -- e.g.; every second day. She just might produce an abundance of natural oils that add to the problem -- if she's active that could be further cause this. Then again she is 6, and during the course of a day run her hands through her hair depositing other oils, and other grit on her locks that make the situation noticable.

I hope you do not let her wash her hair without your attention (and boy do I know how this age group is) to ensure a proper rinse is conducted.

Do you use conditioner on her hair? Any good conditioner will do wonders on anyone's head. You don't have to go overboard with the amount you use on nice clean hair so the the product should go a long way. Make sure, prior to applying the conditioner, you do not pour it directly on the hair!! Put an ample amount in your palm, then rub your hands together to spread the the product then work it into her hair gently (no tugging) and thoroughly from roots to ends. Prior to rinsing the conditioner, take a 'pic comb' (one with wide gaps between teeth) and slowly slide it up the shaft to the ends so the end result is you have no snags (tangles). After the suggested 'wait' time, pull the comb slowly through once again, then do a good thorough rinse.

Rinsing is paramount in that you get all the shampoo out, then all the conditioner out. Squeaky is a good indication the job is done properly!!

Brushing!!! I trust you are not using a brush on wet hair!! That will cause breakage and it might also be part of why your 6 year old has 'tangily' locks.

Bath time is suppose to be fun; if the hair wash is not fun for her the whole experience is traumatic!!!

Good luck in getting this remedied!!

I know this is a long answer and I apologize.

I have a 2 year old with the same problem. I use the Sauve for Kids shampoo & conditioner in one on her hair and then follow up with a detangler before brushing. I also spray the detangler on her hair when it is dry just because it's easier to brush it. I try to get her hair trimmed about every other month to control the split ends. When I can, I put her hair up in pony tails or braids so it doesn't look as wild.

Your child is still yung and has a fragile scalp that can easily be irritated. I think you should try an excellent shampoo called circle of friends. They make the shampoo, conditioner and even a spray on detangler. This shampoo is made for yound children and it is one of those "no tears" shampoo.

Thes best thing your child will love is that it comes in papaya scent, banana scent and other cool scents. I STRONGLY recommend it, I think your child will love it!

I like Baby Don't Cry by Paul Mitchell...
Sometimes conditioner can make hair look stringy...Does she have fine hair? If so, buy a conditioner and shampoo made just for fine hair...

Her hair needs to be cared for, you do not need to cut it. Use Dove intense moisture shampoo & conditioner on her hair. It works really good at detangling and leaving hair soft. Also, use a small amount of hair moisturizer everyday to provide her hair with vitamins, protection and moisture because it will make it easy to manage. Try Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil creme.

hi TAL9070, Did you get your hair colored professionally? Your stylist will (very almost) consistently advise a shampoo & conditioner. If no longer, then i might flow with something somewhat elementary like "infant shampoo" stable success! OXXO Moonchild

I've always used either Suave or Loreal for kids. They have 3 different formulas I believe for whatever the need is. They also have detanglers. They smell really yummy too.
