Cell phone and/or email voting assumes voters are naturally honest. Let's put this in perspective; Edison's actual first invention (vote tabulation device) had no appeal because confusion during the counting of votes makes for good storytelling later. Good thing the light bulb caught on because we may still be in the dark in more ways than one.

This have any connection to our acting like animals (donkey and elephant from Thomas Nast) in a zoo or jungle when trying to think about self-governance?

This is very funny, thinking about it makes me laugh, because all the technology that is out there, you can vote for American Idol on-line or through the phone. Why not vote for president? We still have these old machines for Voting that are rusted and very noisy. If they would have voting through the phones or the Internet, I believe a bigger % of the population will vote, because a lot of people don't vote because they don't feel like going out there everyday routing to wait in line to vote.

I personally have 3 active e-mail addresses. One allows as many 'aliases as I want. I can walk into a number of stores and buy multiple prepaid cell phones for cash with no ID. These forms of communication don't even claim to be secure. If people are worried about hacking and fraud in electronic machine that have actual security measures, why should we trust completely unsecured networks.
BTW I didn't say voting machines had perfect security, but at least an attempt is made.

For one, it is too difficult to monitor who is registered, who is legal, and who has already voted. For two, if you're too lazy to get your sorry bum to the polls one day a year, you really don't deserve to vote (especially since there are options for the home-bound and people who simply cannot make it for non-laziness related issues -- early voting and mail). And this doesn't even mention the fact that voting is supposed to be private and secret.

No, there are too many possibilities for fraudulent voting. We already have early voting and absentee voting. Let's not make it easier for certain people to have more to complain about the elections being rigged.

Voting by cellphone or email can be rigged or hacked easily than counting machines because there will be no effective control.

Voters may be honest but politicians are not. Too much chance for fraud.
