I had a 1st molar extracted yesterday. I am being very careful to follow the aftercare by my dentist. I'm not smoking, drinking through a straw, or doing anything else to encourage a dry socket. But yet I woke up this morning and cannot see the blood clot in the socket anymore. I can feel a jelly like substance but I see no clot. there is a slight ache in my jaw at the extraction site but it's not really painful.
are you suppose to see the blood clot? I look into the socket and all I can see is saliva, I see no clot. But it doesn't feel dry, it feels like there is a jelly substance there instead of a clot. Is this normal or am I starting to get a dry socket?
My dentist is closed today, otherwise I'd be calling him.

If you are not in severe pain then you do not have a dry socket. Since you just had this tooth extracted yesterday, you'll be experiencing some discomfort. Try not to mess with it too much with your tongue!! As long as the area starts to feel better & better over the next few days, you should be fine. Starting tonight or tomorrow, gently swish with warm salt water, this will help the site heal faster.

No, you do not have a dry socket. If you did, trust me, you would know. Leave the area alone, keep your tongue out of it. The "jelly" substance you feel could actually be the clot.

i believe i experienced the same thing 3 or 4 years ago when i had a molar extracted-i even quit smoking for 24 hours. i dont think
dry socket happens that quick-

i would call your dentist's office and ask -but i don't think you will find that there is a problem
