It is hard work with low pay, but it is stable work.

And the vast majority of cooks are craftsman, not artists.

That would depend on alot of various factors. Questions to ask yourself... How much do I LOVE to cook? Are you passionate about food? Are you creative? Are you willing to work nights, weekends, holidays? Do you think about how to make a recipe better? Do you have $40,000 to spend on a culinary degree? Can you live on $35,000 a year salary?

If you answer yes to these questions, then becoming a chef is a great career. I'm a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu culinary arts school in Minnesota. I'm planning on opening my own restaurant. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. You can't call in sick, go off on vacation whenever you want. The restaurant schedules you, not the other way around. You should check out culinary programs in your area. Go visit, observe the classes, ask about job placement programs after graduation.

I hope this gave you some insight. Good luck in your career choice!

I would think so, you will always be in demand. It's not like people will just stop going out to eat. If you enjoy it I say go for it.
