it is against God to take medications for depression and anxiety? If so, why? Do you believe God should handle all of your problems and you should never use medications as a crutch? Do you look down on people who have these kinds of problems?

No, it's not against God's will for us to use medications...even those for depression and anxiety.

God does handle these problems by providing medical expertise and appropriate medications.

No, I don't look down on people with problems. I pray for them.

Good question.

During the Victorian Era, people believed that "will power" was the answer to everything. Mental illness was viewed as a failure of the will, and thus something to be ashamed of.

Would you take medication is you were suffering from a bacterial infection? I certainly hope so. Just because an illness has an emotional manifestation doesn't not mean it is caused by a lack of faith, bad morals, or not trusting enough.

I know some religions teach that; but I totally disagree. If I suffering from appendicitis, I don't want to substitute prayer for the skills of a surgeon. I'll take the prayers, but GET ME MY DOCTOR!!!

We have to get over the medieval notion that depression and anxiety are charachter flaws. They have physiological roots, and can be treated effectively with medication. To think otherwise is, (I'm sorry) just as ludicrous as thinking we can pray away viral meningitis. I don't discount miracles; but providence gave us brains to come up with more practical solutions -- and we should not be ashamed to use them.

Keep religion separate from medicine. You think that a diabetic is using insulin as a crutch? You sound like a Christian Scientist I don't believe that God can solve all problems. Our society has a problem with deciding what God's favorite religion is. Mankind cannot make this decision, only God can and He refuses to show up like he used to do in the Bible with an answer. So you can expect religion fighting to continue.

I believe most people today are on medications they dont need to be on. If they sought Gods help, most wouldnt need them. They turn to a medication for a quick fix, instead of trying to find out what the problem is and getting help for it.
But, in saying that, I almost must add on. If we see a doc for any reason at all,, then why would it be wrong for a person to take a med for a true disease? And, no most meds today for depression and all that, are just to numb the person and hide away whats eating at them.
Brain chemical issues are serious and the person can need a med for a certain condition, just like needing insulin for a diabetic. Yes we need to let God handle our problems, Thats our first choice. But, if there is really something wrong with someone and they havent got help yet, some may need this med to balance out. Tho I would say 90 percent of all on meds dont need them, espeically for depresson.
Last night on tv, they were telling of a new kind ofmental illness. called something like school anxienty disorder. from kids that dont want to go to school, and NOW they are medicating them. Come on ppl. How many kids just wanted to go to school? They would usualy rather be out playing or something. Now , we hve a medication to numb them for this so called DISORDER.
God is the one we go to for advise on these things, on ALL things. But someone shouldnt make another feel guilty if they have to take a med for a serious conditon. For example, many that have post traumatic stress disorder, take meds. Sometimes they can get off of it, by chaning how they think and not focusing on the past. But, we are created with very complex matter. If one stays afraid and sad long enough, sometimes it will change brain chemistry, and the brain no longer makes certain chemicals for sleep, joy, etc. The brain actually changed. SO, wold that be wrong to take meds for? I dont think so. Anymore than a diabetic needs insulin. But, its ok to ask God for healing. Good question, makes us all think.... progress.

I do not think it is against gods will to take these. And I think in this day and age that there are allot of people that do take them ( i myself am one of them). I think that god loves us no matter what.

And I do think that God handles all of our problems but some of the time we don't like how he handles them.

May I know where did you get the verse that God forbid us to take medications simply because it couldn't be accepted by common sense, God will only help those who help themselves. It is not logical at all.

No, I don't look down upon them at all. I have lived with people with depression, and not too long ago, I was given a medicine for a few months that made me feel VERY suicidal a couple of times, it was scary, and sad.

I don't look down on people who use 'em. I don't think it's against God, but I do believe it may turn into a crutch if you don't try to find other alternatives for your ailment (self help, etc.).

I don't know if it is against the regular god but according to the great pundit Tom Cruise Malpother it is apparently against L Ron Hubbard's god.

I take insulin to stay alive. It has allowed me to serve God for many years. If I were living in a time before the invention of medicinal insulin, I would have died as a young child.

The Apostle told Timothy to take a little wine for his infirmity. It's okay to take your meds.

1 Timothy 5:23, "Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities."

God bless you & your family.
