I suffer from depression a lot but everyday I keep plodding along. The thing which keeps me going is the media. Now I think that I can't die until I have seen saw 3. After that I will hopefully find a book that I have to finish or a computer game that I have to complete. What keeps you going through the bad times in life?

I'm 29 years old. I have suffered with depression for a while but I don't get help because I'm scared. My brother was diagnosed as being Bipolar and sectioned several times.

Try playing Online Games for a change dude,
try Conquer Online http://www.conqueronline.com

Try to be more religious (depends on oneself).

Try to just "let it go" and try to learn to just accept some things are the way it was meant to be.

Lastly...be more confident in yourself.

Hope this helps :)

p/s: Never Ever make "watching porn" a habit, it kills your brain cells. and don't depends on drugs.

Just curious, are you on any type of medication for your depression and how old are you? I suffered from depression since the age of 10 and I still deal with it on a regular basis. What keeps me going is my husband and music. Of course with the help of my medications. Sometimes we lack certain chemicals in our brain's that we need to feel balanced. Some medications can really be helpful, while others can backfire. It takes patience to find what works. If you enjoy media use that. Always have a movie or a book you can read to distract your thoughts. That's what my husband does. He reads fantasy novels. Not sure of your interests, but he enjoys disappearing into a book to escape reality for a while. These are just a few thoughts. The one question I would like to know is how old you are if you don't mind me asking.

I think you should really talk to your Dr, its really hard (been there, done it, taken the Prozac) but the benefits absolutely outweigh the fear factor.

I had cognitive therapy which helps you to change how you feel by changing how you act. So instead of beating myself up over something going wrong or submitting to my paranoia I now take action to stop it. For example, if you believe that you have to be perfect and if you go wrong you dissolve into a spiral of self-hate then do something wrong on purpose. You see that, in the end, its not the end of the world and eventually you learn to control the emotional response.

So, that knowledge keeps me going and also having supportive friends and family and knowing when I'm sinking so that I can call for help before its too late.

Plus, I'm a bit with you on the media thing, I haven't see The History Boys yet so nothing is going to happen before that!

I can relate to you here as in my mid 20's I suffered from depression, I had recently moved to Manchester from Wales and although I was happy with the fact I had moved the realisation set in soon enough.

What really kept me going was the fact that I couldn't leave if I had unpaid bills or anything on my credit card etc as it would be unfair to let my family pay it all. It sounds silly I know but it did keep me plodding along.

I still have down days every now and then but not as bad as I used to but it's something I've learnt to just accept.

My boyfriend. He's one of those crazy, happy people who in the 2 years we've been together has never been in a bad mood! (no he's not on drugs!!) He always makes me laugh and gives me a hug when I'm feeling down. If you're suffering from depression you could try taking St Johns Wart, it's a natural remedy which is supposed to be really effective. Don't take it if you're on the pill though without checking with your docor first as it can have a negative effect on some contraceptive pills.

Good question.I suffer from chronic depression, and like you, find it a daily struggle. The only thing that I really enjoy doing is taking photos.Other than that, not much except some vague hope that things will get better,or at least not any worse. It doesn't sound like you want to die,so just stick at it-try not to be too hard on yourself, and recognise that you're doing quite well coping as you are.

My weekend lie in bed keeps me going! Also holidays with the chance of having a lot of spare time to relax - a pipedream at the moment but I'll get a good break from work at Christmas time!

Whenever I feel I'm getting closer to that point of depression I go for long walks............ somehow I always manage to see someone who looks less fortunate than me (sad, angry, in a hurry, someone with a disability etc..) then I imagine the reasons why that person looks like that and try to find an answer to their "problems", it sounds insane but it makes me feel better.

Wow, that is very sad that is what "keeps you alive". Are you seeking counseling? That helps, plus having a more realistic perspective on life, it is not a movie, a game or a book.

What keeps me going is knowing what my purpose is and doing it. I have a strong belief in God, He gives us the right perspective on life. I'd like to suggest you may want to read the greatest book ever written, the Bible, to give your life purpose. I guarantee, you won't regret it.

well ambition for a start, think positive, one only gets out of life what one puts into life. each day is a "new beginning" sure, things don't always go according to plan, but it's challenging to overcome depression. Another thing that keeps me going is my family, they are everything to me and if they were to see me depressed that would worry and upset them. good luck
