Read an excerpt from THE WASHINGTON TIMES:

That's like saying that you live in the same country as Bill Gates so you must be rich.
There are many, many reasons why your position doesn't make much sense, and the paradox that you claim haunts Mexico is false.
The tourism dollars don't go to the little people. The multi-national hotel chains rake in most of that money. As for trade volume, Mexico is being exploited for it's cheap labour. The money being generated by this ends up in the pockets of foreigners, not Mexicans.

Mexico keeps it's people poor and uneducated to stay in control.
It's safe to have sheep but dangerous to have wolves.
Besides they're saving up for a NUKE! So, when their friends like IRAN come gunning for us they can join in.
With Mexico’s oil, gold, silver and tourism and with the FOREIGN AID of $40 MILLION the U.S. sends them they should be able to get along just fine. Not to mention other countries that send them Foreign Aid!
Tourism alone, should be a multi-Billion dollar business. But when you have Americans afraid they are going to be killed while on vacation that doesn't work, and American’s do get killed in Mexico 100's of them! There is nothing the American government can do for an American if a crime has been committed against them or they land in jail while they are in Mexico.
MEXICO IS THE 4TH RICHEST OIL NATION IN THE WORLD
(Which I might add they stole from the Americans in 1939 then kicked the Americans out of Mexico!)

It's all about being centralized in the oil and the tourist industries, the tequila, beer, and food specialties being secondary. Most of Mexico's money is hoarded by corruption and a few wealthy people. Many of the population live in the poorer areas and find it hard to break in to good paying jobs due to location and corrupt people giving favors to chosen people

The rich keep all the money for themselves. Its like that saying, the rich get richer while the poor get poorer. Thats why so many undocumented workers have to come to the US to make money. If the US would just give us poor people some money, we would stay in Mexico.

Corruption =(.... i'm mexican i i know that Mexico is very rich, one of the largest economies of the world, member of the OCDE, big companies like Pemex or Telmex...but the goverment is very corrupt...the money kept in the hands of only a few.

Because all the money is kept in the hands of only a few, while the rest of the people suffer. The cost of gasoline in Mexico is higher than it is in the US because the Mexican government exploits its own people.

Because the government is so corrupted and does not use this money for his peoples' wellbeing. Although Mexico has lots of money I promise you its people will never see it.

In these countries when you are rich you are RICH. And when you are poor you are POOR. of course there are some middle class. But not as much as here.

It's financial situation is slowly improving thanks to the flow of American dollars into Mexico. But it will eventually corrupt ours.
