Life in Europe as great for the royalty and nobility, but not very desirable for the guy at the bottom. Very little of anything was owned by anyone except the titled. You either had a fancy title, or you were less than dirt. People made a living by working for the titled. They were somewhat less than slaves. Slaves were expensive, commoners were for free.
They knew that in America they could homestead land for free. They could grow whatever they pleased. They had no Count or Baron or Lord making every little decision for them. At last they were FREE. They were their own bosses.

To seek their fortunes. Europe was a very class structured place where almost all wealth was inherited & it was virtually impossible to become wealthy or move up in social class. The New world was literally a new world where diligent, hard working adventurers could get a new start & make their way up the ladder.
