Having suffered from anxiety and depression all my life, in my opinion it is not possible to effectively treat clinical or major depression without utilizing therapy and/or medicine. The key word being "effective." Sure things like exercise, diet or just plain old shoving sunshine up your a s s might help a bit but the only way out of true depression is through mental health care providers, I've been seeing them for 3 years.

Execise. Eat healthier (5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, avoid white flour and sugar or use sparingly, eat enough lean protein, go easy on fats) Take vitamins, a good multi, be sure it has plenty of B vitamins.

Also, your support system, make sure you have a good one. Talk to family and friends about your life and what is going on with you. If you feel they do not understand, you may need a therapist, or even if you feel like you are taking up a lot of their time and still need to talk to someone, then a therapist is good.

if you find you get stuck on the same thoughts and are driving people crazy, or you seem "stuck" on the same problems that you are unable to do anything about, then you might need a therapist.

The therapist can tell you if they, in their professional opinion, believe you might benefit from meds and refer you to a psychiatrist to prescribe them.

sometimes, therapy and meds are neccessary, and sometimes they are not.
You could try those 3 ideas and see if they help first.
good luck!

there is not any organic treatment for clinical melancholy. once you've clinical melancholy you need to take medicine. no longer some thing else can help you. when you're "depressed" as in dealing with a perplexing spot which will finally bypass... Then because the guy above stated: workout and holding the concepts and body lively. Get off the mattress, set a ordinary, and do not ever succumb to the favor to in hardship-free words lie round doing no longer some thing.

try deprex by vanax( a natural supplement) or st johns wort, a supplement available at any health food store,
surround yourself with happy people, supportive friends, think positive, listen to upbeat music, watch comedies, avoid news, exercise, get fresh air and do deep breathing, meditate, keep pretty flowers and art in your home, use aroma therapy or at least burn some good incense, get massages, eat right, sleep a lot, think positive ( worth repeatring) avoid self criticism, forgive your own flaws,as you would in your friends;
just INUNDATE yourself with everything good and positive to counteract this depression.. REMEMBER, it can go away and does. just keep on keeping on.
read a book on cognitive therapy, you may be causing the depression with your beliefs or attitude. sometimes we can be our own worst enemy. lose your ego. you are in good company as many many wondefful and famous and accomplished people have suffered and do suffer the same malady. it is natural for a sensitive caring person to be depressed in this world. fight it.
