No, because they didn't make anyone smoke! If they were responsible for smokers health then McDonalds, Burger King, etc. should also be responsible. Alcohol manufacturers would also have to be responsible, come to think of it, the sun should also be responsible for skin cancer victims!! We need to stop this nonsense, people should be reponsible for what they do to themselves.

Should automobile manufacturers be responsible for drivers' wellbeing?

The answer is both yes and no, both to an extent, of course. The auto manufacturer can be held liable for a faulty auto but not for the fact that you chose to drive recklessly. The tobacco companies can be held liable for a misleading, intentionally harmful product but not for the fact that you chose to partake. Everyone knows the risk of tobacco use, simply choose to not partake.

absolutely NOT. Smoking is a choice just like drinking alcohol or over eating...if tobacco companies are held responsible, then so should distilleries, breweries, fast food places, donut shops, etc.

No, I think that they should still post warnings and show anti-smoking commercials but that's all.

Its the persons choice to smoke, and he/she must deal with the consequences. Its not like they can say that they were not aware of the repercussions of smoking cigarettes.

The problem isn't the tobacco companies...the problem is the government making the sale of cigarettes legal. If you tried to bring a new product out to market that had over 3000 toxic chemicals in it and caused cancer and other health problems...the gov't would never let you sell it...so why do they allow the sale of cigarettes. the problem lies with our government.
