My neck feels like someone is hanging off of it. It's a really "heavy" feeling. I didn't injure it at all playing sports, and believe is is due to stress. Ibuprofen doesn't do anything to help, nor does anything else. Seeing that as of late I am extremely stressed out over my job situation, what can I do to relieve this tension in my neck and shoulders. Help please!

Thanks,

Steve

Registered Nurse here; Dear Steve, sounds like it can certainely be related to stress. Ask your self these question. #1. Do you find yourself tense and tight at work, such as holding your shouldrers stiff, neck stiff, do you spend a great deal of time at a computer? I would suggest a heating pad low temperature at night, mild heat is an excellent source to relieve and relax tense muscles. Also try some light excericises throughout the day, such as rolling your neck back and forth, rub the back of your neck, if available have someonelse rub the back of your neck, gently, but yet firm. If tension present you should notice relieve instant, not to say that it want return immediately. Ibuprofen may need to be taken for several days, Ibuprofen is an non-steriod anti-inflammatory agent, and should with a few days, help the tension. Take with food, Ibuprofen can be very irrating to the stomach, creating yet another problem. Warm showers, allowing the pressure from the shower to massage the back of your neck for 2 to 3 minutes, should also help. Finally, body position while in bed, proper use of pillows. If all the above falls, should see your physician, you made need a prescription to assist you through this stressful time. You and your Doc could best discuss what options are available and the two of you decide together what is best for you. Speedy recover, try not to worry & be Happy! I know easier said than done.
Thanks for the opportunity to address your question.

I found an unfailing remedy which works for me. buy at your local health food store or buy online. (do google -search for sellers) BACH Rescue Remedy Cream. It's greaseless - apply it & rub it in & LEAVE IT ON !!!!

tHIS CREAM is made from 5 English flowers distilled essence and has no drugs or chemicals. No one understands why it works but it works. Use for soreness, pain, irritation & discomfort from any cause. (sprains, strains, insect bites, boils, burns, etc.etc.etc.)

It's not that expensive and works right away. I always keep 3 tubes around my place for "just in case"

Try it & let me know how you do. email me and I hope I have helped in some way. All the best to you. I want to see you get well. Really.

Mostly likely you have a vertabrae out of place.

A Chiropractor would be an excellent source and most times they have a massage therapist in the office that you can obtain at a discount.

Massages release endorphins for stress relief, the most natural kind.

That's my own personal recommendation.

massaging your neck will help for the pain, but will not take away the reason that's bringing on the pain, which is stress in your case, as you said. You might try this http://www.hypnosisdownloads.com/cat/stress_management.html?1596!y-stress. I'm sure it will help. It did for me. And it is of course better than medication.

I have neck pain and have used something called Stopain that I bought at Walgreens. It has menthol in it which creates a real cool, soothing feeling and helps relieve pain. It comes in a roll-on and is super easy to use. A similar product is Biofreeze which is good too.

On May 4th I watched all the Star Wars movies to celebrate Star Wars Day. I was actually feeling really depressed and when I watched Star Wars felt extremely happy. It's weird how that works. Even after I was inspired to work on my most recent fan fiction and drawings of Boba Fett.

"Aleve" works for me. My wife goes to a big guy down the street and gets a 2 hour "massage". She says it works for her.
