my son didn't talk as a toddler and was assessed through the school system as well as early intervention through the county we lived in. He would say a couple words, animal sounds and made up his own sign language. He was deemed 25% delayed and need speech therapy. The first session he said a word and was only in therapy 5 months and then discharged because he was doing so well. Now we can't shut him up! First talk with the pediatrician and get info on early intervention in your county and then have them evaluate. They usually have numerous different therapist in on the evaluation to check everythiing out. Good Luck!

My mom told me that I didn't talk until I was close to 3 1/2. The reason was that all I had to do was point at something I wanted and make a grunting noise and whoever was there would get it for me. I didn't have to talk. When they finally realized this they made me ask for what I wanted. I threw a fit or two but eventually began talking. I would take her to the doctor though just to make sure it's not a medical problem. (She could have a hearing problem).

3yrs, 4 months....
Does she make any understandable sounds at all? Like sounds that have a specific meaning to her? I suggest you get her hearing checked. One sign of hearing problems is not talking, or not making sounds.
Besides that, you need to talk to her more. Turn off the TV, and read books. Sing songs together. Talk to her and listen when she attempts to answer. You can tell her about your day, about current events, even about the weather. She'll mimic you and learn from hearing you speak.
Go to the doctors as well though. She'll be starting school next year, and may have difficulties if she hasn't learned to communicate by then. Good Luck!!!

Do you mean 3 years and 4 months? Ok if that is the case she should be saying some words by now. She may have a hearing problem. I would call your pediatrician to discuss this. Test can be done to see if your child has a hearing problem. It is better to get early help on this. Good luck to you..

I don't know of any children that "talk" at 3 to 4 months old. Now if she is not making any kind of noises at all, you need to have her checked out. She may have a hearing problem. Babies just make grunting noises and stuff like that at that age. Now if you are saying she is 3 years old and not talking, that is something to worry about. She should be talking up a storm by then, again, she may have a hearing problem. Take her to a doctor ASAP. Good Luck.

If she is three years old with four months then most likely you have to take her to a speech therapist, some kids learn to talk when they are older, but I had a cousin who was a little over 3 and still said nothing other then Mom, she ended up having to see a speech therapist and now she talks. You might want to talk to her doctor about this.

Every child is unique in his/her own way. They develop at his/her own rate. Some are quick to start talking and some aren't. Some infants that age babble or just make the tiniest of noises. It doesnt mean that anything is wrond with him/her. Most are just sounds and squeals and not "words" at 3 or 4 months of age.

As long as she turns towards you when you talk to her, or you make a sound such as tapping on the table with your hand to get her attention. If she doesn't turn towards you or doesnt turn her head in the direction of the noise then make an appointment with her pediatritian and tell them your concerns about her hearing.

If she has no noticible problems with her hearing that you can tell of then relax because your daughter is just not ready to vocally make herself known.

Enjoy your daughter because they grow up so fast and dont worry about if shes behind because babies develope at THEIR own rate.
Hope that eases your mind a little..

My son is two years old and he doesn't talk, apart from the odd bit of babbling. Toddlers develop at differing rates, I do not believe you have anything at all to worry about. I certainly wouldn't expect a three or four-month old baby to be doing any talking at all. At three or four months the best you can expect is a bit of gurgling, smiling, and maybe even rolling over. I would certainly recommend that you get a book that tells you all of the milestones to expect in the first year. Or you can always ask questions here I guess :-)

Sorry I misread your question, I thought you had two children, aged 3 and 4 months.
If your daughter is 3 years old and 4 months, why dont' you check with your doctor? Might be a hearing problem, speech problem, or anything.

Take her to get a hearing test done. My daughter had a speech disorder one of the signs is a lot of ear infections. Not in all cases though.
