What is done is done but yes, in a sense there can be "too much." What you did on your part was to make him feel pampered and special but you might have embarrassed him or made him feel as though he owes you something even bigger for the next birthday or anniversary for you.
You can show someone you care and shower them with affections and not spend a lot of money - an art maybe you can learn :)
If he acts a little strange or wants to talk about the birthday, just let him know you wanted him to feel special and its the only way you knew how to do that. You might get some valuable input from him as well.

It's okay I guess, but too many gifts may also give off the impression that you don't really know what the person would like so you just bought him a lot of stuff. Like don't worry about the fact that you did that. It's not a problem. Just next time get him one thing or just do something special for him that he'd like. Personally I don't like getting gifts for my birthday and just like to go out and be with my friends.

It sounds like you're either trying to buy his affections or you're trying to even things out.
"Things" are really nice but at the end of the day they're just "things".
Maybe the next time you want to show him you care you'll do the dinner and maybe give him a nice massage and light some candles, listen to some music, and just enjoy each other without cell phones, TV or outside interruptions.
It doesn't cost much but it says a lot.

Yeah, I think it depends how long you've been together, and if the amount you spend on each other is about the same. My parents don't even spend that much on each other. It sounds like you adore him though. Thats so sweet, but yeah it probably was a bit much.

yes, you can do too much. it made him uncomfortable.
it could be with how he was raised. to spoil the woman and expect nothing in return. you definately caught him off guard.
maybe you guys should set a price limit for holiday shopping and birthdays, anniversaries, other days so it doesn't happen again.

i would just ask him, how much is too much. i would sit down with him and dicuss exactly what is his limit. i really wouldn't mind too many gifts though, thats just me. after all you wouldnt want to lose someone you love right?

this probrably isn't the case, but he might think you're cheating on him or something, and now you want to make it up by spoiling him. Crazy, i know, but if he gets suspitious.... you never know.

If you go overboard it might seem like you are bribing your man for something, or trying to buy his love.
Just take it easy.
