A situation has come up--someone needs help, and they need it fast.

You have a way to help them. This will take an hour of your time, and will cost you, oh, let's say $20 or the equivalent (i.e., gas money, giving them something, etc.) This will, however, inconvenience your daily life in a somewhat significant way--you may be late for work, or you may have to get someone else to pick the kids up from the bus, so on.

You can also pray for them instead, without doing anything.

Which would you do?

As a Wiccan and High Priestess of my religion, I would do both. As I took a vow to my Goddess to aid those who need it. Now of course that may be aiding them in finding there own answers. Or an agency to help them in this time of crisis.

Also I would give them my time, to discuss the problem and help find a win, win way to solve it.

I would then pray for them...or perhaps help them do a spell to make things in their lives better.

Time and money are easy fixes, help and guidance take a little bit longer. But gives more then a quick fix. It gives
self esteem and love.

There is an old saying that states "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime." And that is what my Goddess wants me to give to those in need. The ability to help themselves.

Prayer without an accompanying action will fail just as action without a correspondent prayer wil fail

Give because God will not appear physically to help that fellow but also pray because without God's grace upon your act of charity no good can be achieve

Be liberal in giving alms but never forget that a little prayer of thanksgiven can multiply your gift of love so that the fellow's need will be met beyound measure

Take the time and give them the $20.... UNLESS, of course, that $20 is going to feed my kid. My child comes first. But, my kid is 16 and walks home from school, so that part of it isn't an inconvenience... and believe me, it doesn't bother me a bit to be late to work lol

I'd try to do both. Although, if it were only $20, I could probably manage that easily. Love is an action. When God said to love ppl, He meant to show love to them, in this case by helping them when possible.

I would do both. Thank goodness for cell phones. I could meet the need of the individual involved and use my cell phone to meet my other obligations such as calling in and letting work know I will be a bit late, or having husband or friend pick up children.

I'd help them out. The action would be the prayer because prayer is intention.

Two hands working can do more than the prayers of millions.

Prayer is 100% ineffective. Please check out a recent study on prayer, at the link below. This article is from The New York Times.

PRAY and all of the above... Why is it so hard for us to extend ourselves for each other instead of thinking how much inconvenience it causes??? When JESUS died for our sins, he didn't think of the inconvenience.
