Teenagers are high-risk due to lack of experience and accident history among other teenage drivers. Best bet: get good grades (usually at least a 3.0 GPA) to get the good student discount. That will lessen the amount paid, but you'll still pay lots.

It will be more expensive than insurance for an experienced driver. Experienced=more than 3 years driving experience. It also depends on what kind of car they will be driving and what kind of coverage it will need. For example, if the kid is driving a car that just needs basic liability insurance, it will be significantly cheaper than if you bought the kid a car that requires full coverage. Stay away from sports cars! The sportier and faster the car, the higher the insurance. Go for something cheap and used and something you can pay for out of pocket. And keep in mind, many kids have a wreck within six months of being licensed. So don't splurge on a fancy new car unless you're prepared to see it crumpled in a ditch in a few months.

My 16 year old insurance is $200.00 a month. But what does it matter? your parents are supposed to buy you a new and cool car (My kid got a Corvette) and if your parents don't buy the car and pay for the gas, Insurance its child abuse my kid told me so.

Alot depends on the car and gender of the teenager.
Insurance for males is much higher in the US and very high if the car is a performance or "Muscle"car.

It's going to be expensive no matter what...but it will be alot cheaper if you just get liability....so even though I know its "cool" to have a new and exciting car- its not so "cool" to pay the premium on that kind of car.
