Do you buy value items (shops own brand / cheaper labels) or do you prefer Brand name goods??

I almost always buy the value items. The stores and "generic" labels purchase their products from the brand name canners and producers, and relabel them.
In almost all cases I've discovered NO difference in quality and taste. Sometimes the size and shape of cereals is a bit different. These may have been "seconds" at the name brand factories, or the product may have been commissioned to look a bit different.

The only time I purchase name brand products is when they are either on a huge discounted sale, or I am buying in bulk quantity (again at a very large discount) at a box store or wholesale club.

In any manufactured product, there are just two things that you must consider - - - if you are a good judge of quality. First is the material. If the material that the item is made of is of the quality that you're looking for, next examine the workmanship. If the workmanship is of the quality that would satisfy you you have a satisfactory item.
Having a well known name attached to a product is no guarantee of it's value. Often a manufacturing company attempting to make a name for themselves will use the very best materials and extra time to make sure their product will be accepted.
Often the well known companies will begin cutting corners figuring the public will buy their name.
A while back, when Western was so popular, small companies in the Orient were bootlegging Jordach jeans. The only way they could be told apart is that the fakes were better.
The term BRAND NAME is deceiving because everything on the market has a brand name.

It depends on the item... there are certain items that need to be brand name 1) Heinz Ketchup...non negotiable 2)Kraft Dinner.... non negotiable
Other things can get tried and if they work then use the value one. My favorie syrup is actually a store brand, and some paper products are ok. If it works for you then go for it and save the money... some things are just worth the extra money. Sometimes when the name brands are on sale they are cheaper then value brands

I have found that most of the quote value items are only a lower grade of the name brand and are just as good, sometimes better to use. Not to mention they save you money to buy other much needed items later.

I buy a little of both. Some value brands do not taste as good as brand name even though the ingredients are the same. I especially don't like value brand cereals because they taste funny and leave a nasty residue on the spoon.

It's sort of taste preference and price preference sometimes, because I usually start out buying store brand because it's cheaper, but then hate the taste and go to brand name and try that.

The open secret is that MOST store brand items are the EXACT same items as name brands. The only difference is the label placed on them. You don't really think Wal-mart (the owner of the Great Value name) actually manufactures anything, do you?

Absolutely depends on the item...but, I lean towards the branded item....but look for it on sale and buy bulk. Additionally, depends on the store. We have a Trader Jo's grocery store in our area....their value branded items are equally as good (better?) than traditional brands.

i think that i would have to prefer value goods rather than brand names. you can get the exact same thing but just of cheaper value. its just as good though.

i would go with value because if you look on the back of the goods you will find that they are made and have the exact same things in them and sometimes the value is even better for you hop i helped
