First , that habit is very hard to break. I grabbed a garbage bag and dumped everything that I shouldn't be eating out and replaced it with a bunch of fruit, carrots, celery and fat free dip. I brewed some tea and dumped out the soda. (sweet tea takes the edge off). Now if you do run to the kitchen you won't be killing yourself. Next, start walking, or biking. You have to force yourself at first, but you get used to it quick, and even WANT to do it after a while. I can't recommend a diet plan, see your Dr. about that, but those things I mentioned will help break the EMOTIONAL eating part. Good luck!

Emotional eating is a very hard habit to break. I go up and down with my willpower. The best thing that I have done so far is join weight watchers. I know it sounds cheesy. I work for a YMCA and I always thought that I could tackle it by myself because I could work out anytime that I wanted to. But after working here all day you usually don't want to stay and workout...lol! But Weight Watchers has this new plan it's called the core plan and you can eat as much as you want until you're comfortably full. I followed it and lost about 7 pounds the first two weeks. The meetings really help. Plus it sounds like you wanna make some new friends and you can meet new people there.
I'm sorry if I sound like a commercial for weight watchers, but it is what has helped me over all. I've only been doing it for about 4 weeks, but it's made a big difference! It's inexpensive too, it only cost $12 a week to attend a meeting, meet new people and weigh in on professional scale. Plus the scale is turned where only the person weighing you can see the weight. I really enjoy it...can you tell?
I'm trying to lose a little bit weight before my wedding so it has definitely helped. Good Luck! There is a lot of good advice/answers to your question. Now get out and make good use of it all! You can do it!

Hi hon. I'm an emotional eater, too...it's a hard, hard habit to break. You'll probably never 100% break it. But I recommend going and taking a walk when you get the urge to eat. Because, for one, it gets you away from the food. And two, it gives you some exercise. If you're upset about the weight gain, what better way to break the habit and get back to what you were than to take a brisk walk every time you want to eat impulsively? I did that and it helped me shed the 30 pounds I gained from eating impulsively.

I eat when i get upset or i need to relax. So I have started to cut up celery into little 1/2 pieces. They are very low calorie, the crunch ( I need to chruch to get the stress away) and I do not really like celery so i cut up two sticks I have had more than enough and only about 100 calories. I like carrots to much but sometimes it is one carrot 9 cut into thin nickle size slices) and one celery stick ( also cut up).
Oh yes, I love only to eat at night so that is why it has to be low calorie, Just doing this I have lost weight
