i know we are supposed to drink lots of water, i find it difficult to do this but do do drink a lot of herbal (mainly peppermint) tea. It makes sense that that has the same beneficial effect of lots of water right? or does it have to plain ol' water?

Water is better for you, but if you can't face it herbal tea is a good substitute

Herbal tea is the same as drinking light doses of medicine. Water could also be considered a medicine because of the health benefits gained by drinking water. Fluids, which comprise most of the human body, need to be changed, the body needs to be flushed (oh, I will get it for that one won't I) and refreshed.

Herbal tea's basically treat conditions. Such as stress teas using Kava Kava, or Lemon Balm to treat cold sores, or ginger root to lose weight. Although there is nothing wrong with tea as a drink many herbal teas are like doses of medicine. Beaware that consuming them has an affect on the human body. They can be very good for you, but can also conflict with prescription medicines.

No, it is not the same as water. Tea is a diuretic, which basically means it makes you pee a lot while dehydrating you. The only drink you should be consuming on a regular basis is water. If you have a cup of tea a day, that's fine, but follow it up with water, otherwise you're going to be constantly dehydrated which can have a number of effects on yoru body.

Read about herbal tea (peppermint) here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peppermint_tea Drinking tea (herbal or otherwise) will provide the body with liquid. Drinking any liquids to excess will mean more visits to the toilet. It is possible to drink so much water that the body's chemical makeup become changed enough to cause headaches. Avoid sugar in whatever you drink - rots teeth and puts on weight.

I only drink bottled water now 1 & 1/2 litres a day - after all this time, tap water now smells of chlorine before it even gets near my mouth and it's got fluoride in it which I read is carcinogenic. Che Mate tea is marvellous with boiled bottled water - no problem getting your water intake that way every day!

No, it needs to be water. You can mix a low cal or no cal sweetner like Sweet N' Low in it, but tea is not the same. If you drink a lot of it...it also increases your risk for a UTI.

Herbal teas, and YES, even caffeinated beverages such asgreen and black tea and coffee count as part of your water/fluid requirements. Experts have proven that coffee and other beverages with caffeine CAN be included as part of your fluid intake. However, do not count alcoholic beverages, as they are sure to dehydrate you.
Drink up :)

of course it's not the same. then again water is of many kinds. if you refer to mineral water that has minerals and salts
if you compare water and tea in term of hydration effects, they are the same (unless it is laxative or diuretic tea)

No, it is not. Water is a clear liquid, tea, coffee, and coke are considered beverages.
