It is the ONLY I use any more. The traditional treatments and prescriptions do NOT work as the little buggers have adapted. Pour the rubbing alcohol in a plastic disposable cup and grab a nit comb, dip the comb and start combing. It actually works. After every combthrough re-dip the comb in the alcohol to keep it saturated. The aclcohol dries the bugs and eggs out VERY quickly, and ends the infestation. The bedding spray is still very effective, so continue to use it, and remember to WASH everything you can in hot water and sanitize everything else. After using the alcohol treatment, rinse the childs hair, and put conditioner in it for 7-10 days. This keeps the hair slick and any buggers you didnt get, from multiplying. 8 days after the first treatment, remember to re-spray everything, mattresses, carpets, everything that cant fit in the washer. And check your childs head on a regualr basis if this epidemic runs rampant in your community, it will help cut down on a re-infestation.

Please please please be very careful if you put Rubbing Alcohol on human hair...It become extremely imflamable and there is a huge danger of harming your child. Several children are badly burned each year.

The household sprays are a con. There are no bugs in your bedding or clothes. HEAD LICE live on heads and nowhere else, ever.

Body lice are different I agree. Fleas from pets live in furnishing I agree, but not head lice.

I have posted a link below which quotes the correct research from James Cooke University to back his up.

Save your time for a simple removal program to get lice out of yout childrens hair, that's all it takes.

Completely saturate head with rubbing alcohol and put a cap on to trap in the fumes. Use arty towel to protect eyes and breathing. After 20 minutes wash hair and condition. Mix 8 drops of tea tree oil into 1/4 cup coconut oil. Completely saturate head, especially at roots. Comb through whole head with nit comb to remove all dead bugs and fried eggs. Leave in oil treatment for as long as you can. Check in 8 days and repeat to ensure that if any possible surviving eggs hatch nymphs will be killed. All those over the counter shampoos don't work, they're crap. This method works. Lice feels like it ruins your life. Do what it takes to get rid of them.

Never heard of that before. I'll have to keep that in mind should I ever need to get rid of lice again.

I had a problem with lice a few years ago. Terrible things just kept coming back. None of the remedies sold in the pharmacy worked. Finally just simply saturated my daughter's hair with conditioner and had her wear a shower cap for a few hours. Suffocated the darned things. The conditioner washed right out and she had nice soft hair afterwards. Had to repeat it again after about a week to get the newly hatched lice. I think I even did it again the week after that too, just to make sure they were gone. I hate lice! Having to wash *everything* is such a pain. I think I even had a couple of airtight garbage bags of stuffed animals stored away in the closet for at least a month before I'd let her have them back.

I have never tried rubbing alcohol, but when my 33 year old son had, when 9;,A friend who was 96 yrs.told me to use coal oil. This is just plain old Lamp oil or kerosene.A bit dangerous but I used and they were gone.I will try the rubbing alcohol next if my grandson who is three ever gets them. I let the oil set for 5 min.& very careful to avoid eyes .Comb through while on,then put a lot of shampoo on to wash out.Condition and you are good to go.I did this because I had tried the store one first and paid a sum that I did not want to spend on again. Thanks for the extra tip. Kel65

I have used rubbing alcohol many times to treat head lice. It has always worked well and not damaged any of my kids hair, or mine. This is an inexpensive way to treat it. Vinegar works well also.

rubbing alcohol works! combed my hair after dousing for 15 mins and all the bugs fell out!!! conditioner works great for the nits! all of this is confirmed. Obviously know your hair, mine is strong and healthy and can handle the alcohol, perhaps someone with fine thin hair might have a problem.

This is unsafe, it may kill the bugs (or some of them) but it may also harm your hair and scalp, most likely it's less effective than medicated shampoo and far more risky to use, if over the counter products don't work see your doctor, there is a prescription.
