Male cat, 3 years old. Always been very clean and used bath or litter tray if stuck in house during day. This problem started in late Summer, but we only found out it was our cat who was to blame for the mess when we saw him doing it.

I'm betting another cat has been spraying in your yard. Cats spray to mark territory and if one has, your cat will mark over it to show dominance and that it is his territory.

Is this really a problem?

Maybe he saw another cat doing it and felt inspired to do the same. Maybe he's marking his territory.

At least it's only outdoors.

If this is strictly a peeing issue, take him to the vet to check for a urinary track infection.

She's probably feeling she's to big for the kitty litter box, try getting a bigger one. If it's not the litter box then maybe you she clean it out more often.

What's wrong with him using the lawn? It's only natural! The kitty litter is really for "our" convenience, not theirs!
