Would they shoot you? Or simply arrest you? Curious, I've been reading up on them and you just know someone's done it.

Also, if you were arrested, would you be fined and jailed as well?

Ok people-I am NOT trying to be disrespectful here-I am just asking a hypothetical question.

Well, if it were up to me, you would receive a bayonet to the eye socket, but since our soldiers are the most disciplined in the world, probably you would just get arrested.
But this is a non-issue. Do you really think they would even notice you and your wimpy kick or shove. they would probably just think you were an insect pestering them.
Oh yea, one more likely scenario - most probably, the veterans who were just there paying their respects to their fallen comrades would take you out behind a large tree and teach you some manners.

When I was in the 8th grade (1996 I believe) we took a class trip to Washington DC. On our second day there we visited Arlington National Cemetery. It was an extremely hot day and we had been walking around the cemetery for most of the afternoon. We went to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier toward the end of our tour. Many of us were hot and tired so we made the grave mistake of sitting during the changing of the guards. When it was over we received the tongue lashing of our lives from the security guards working the area about how disrespectful we were. We didn't realize the significance of the tomb at the time, for if we did we never would have sat, but if that's the penalty for sitting, I can only imagine what would happen if you actually touched one of the guards.

from what i remember, there is a huge rope seperating you from the actual tomb and the guards...the only ones able to get close to the guards and the tomb are the people invited to lay a wreath at the tomb...washington dc is a very special place for a lot of people...there is the vietnam wall, lincolns memorial, arlington cemetary and so on...if someone is stupid enough to deface, vandalize or mess with someone on guard with one of those sites, then they shouldnt be allowed to visit...

i have never seen it happen, but i am sure that if someone tries to jump over the rope or mess with the tomb in some way, they will not hesitate for one second, and they will take you down...now if you get through the rope and ruin a display or something at the cemetary, i am sure that DC will have no problem taking you to jail and pressing charges

Hypothetically speaking........you would more than likely be physically restrained then have the pleasure of meeting the Capitol Police and the National Park Officers. I am sure that there would be a large fine.

Also hypothetically speaking........many who visit the Tomb along with other monuments of historical value are themselves veterans of military service and/or combat veterans. I think that a person would rather deal with the Police then with a Veteran who has just seen a symbol of his sacrifices and the sacrifices of his fellow Veterans disrespected.

I was witness (OK maybe involved) to large scuffle that broke out
when a cup of coffee was deliberately thrown onto the Iwo Jima statue. Word of advise.....think before you act. Semper Fi

First they will beat the crap out of you. They are soldiers, hello they are trained to kill and Im sure they will love a little excitement after a long time walking around that tomb. Then you will be arrested for assault and im sure they will throw in some charges for the disrespect of the monumment.

Anyone pushing a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier ought to have the tar beat out of them on the spot!

Think about it this way. These guards are patient and have a lot of self control. If they see you running towards them my first instinct is to try to avoid you as much as I can and if it's unavoidable I'll brace up. I know for sure they some sort of security personnel near by and they will just haul you away. Me, I'll just have you stand in attention in the center be humiliated out there. Humiliation is the best punishment for anyone.

I would hope that the actual violator would get his A$$ soundly kicked. If not from the Sergeant of the guard than by a bystander...I know if I saw it happen I would; that also goes for anyone who lit the American flag on fire in front of me or who held a sign out in front of a Military Hospital voicing how happy they were for our wounded brave American Soldiers.

I don't think anyone has done it. People who go to Arlington actually have respect for our dead soldiers and attacking a military honor guard is the furthest thing from their mind. Of course, with some of our out of control youth now, who knows when it will be tried and the tape played on MTV.

After the beat down. one would be arrested by federal park police and after one got out of the hospital one would be charged with crimes in the DC federal court system.
