They also only speak English and I was taught only American culture from day one. Now I'm not saying to go that far as to forget your culture and I'm kinda sad I don't know mine but I am just proving you wrong here.

Besides fast food and hate what is American culture. Please don't tell me freedom, or you would not be asking such a ridiculous question. Part of becoming a better person is remembering where you came from. Besides unless you are a Native Indian you too come from immigration. How much do you know about the struggles that brought your people to America?

The greatest act of democracy is dissent. WIthout a dissenting voice, we have no democracy, we just have oligarchy. The ability of people to put forth their thoughts in the "marketplace of ideas" is how we succeed as a country, not how we fall.

And, most of the people I know who "come to this country" do love America. Just because someone immigrates, does that mean they leave their ideas, their sense of justice, or their voice behind? "You come here, you must think what the current administration thinks?" That makes no sense.

"Embrace our culture?" What, does that mean that every immigrant has to stop celebrating Cinco de Mayo, speak only English, and shop at the Gap? It's the melting pot (or rather, the "salad bowl") of diversity that has kept our country vital and great. I think we agree that even non-immigrants may have a different idea about what American "culture" is, depending upon our families, our geographic location, and many other factors.

Flag burning is a whole different issue; I understand both sides of the issue -- it's because it's such a strong statement of political speech that it's protected by the First Amendment, but I can understand the "traditionalist" view as well. But flag burning doesn't fit in your question -- I'd like to see any report that you have of immigrants (i.e. people here to live, not just students studying on visas or other protestors) burning the flag.
Why is it that you bundle all people who dissent, or are the least bit different and are proud of those differences, into the same sort of group?

Americans come from America! Obviously! Our ancestors come from Canada, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Guatemala, Brazil, Cuba, Italy, France, Haiti, England, Ireland, Germany, Spain, China, Vietnam, Japan, Guam, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Holland, India, Greece, Scotland, Iran, Chile, Argentina and plenty of many many different international locations world wide. That's what makes Americans Americans. There isn't any reliable purpose for calling humans who is dermis is whatever however white no longer American in the event that they have been born in America. An American is anybody who used to be born in America without reference to ethnicity or dermis colour or another aspect.

Burn the flag? Don't know why one would do that...if they are not a citizen I do not think they should have that right.

As for the rest, it isn't a great life for all immigrants or even Americans. It MIGHT be a better life than what they had, but that can be a far cry from "great." Why do Americans go to other countries to live and work...because for some, it means that's what they want to do.

The percentage of pro illegals who are actively taking a negative approach to this cause do not speak for most of us here in this forum who are more pro amnesty than pro illegal. I have seen some of the videos the anti's put on here displaying such behavior and have been appalled. Its an embarrassment and I wish they didnt make all mexicans look so bad but I can vouch that while I am in favor of amnesty or a guest worker program and deportation of illegals in jails and committing welfare fraud I would not go so far as to condone that type of behavior. I understand your position, I am born here to 100% Mexican parents and have asked before, how can I choose between the two when Im American but my blood is Mexican?! I cant deny the color of my skin.

I agree with you, if you come to America then you must not have wanted your own culture/country so you might as well have stayed there and not risked the swim, lol. Once you are here LEGALLY you are American, not spanish, cuban, etc... That is just your heritage. To the woman who stated...what is America besides fast food and hate, you have no idea what you are talking about. America has a huge amt of vegetarians and we are taught to love and help our neighbors which is why we are always criticized. Obviously the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and no good deed goes unpunished. But that just shows the hatred and discrimitive nature of your country!
My ancestors are a mix, german scottish, irish and yes even a HUGE amt of Native American! We immigrated and originated so yes I believe if you are here be here, if not GO HOME!

I am Mexican American. My culture is mostly from Mexico. I love the USA and I love Mexico. I would never burn the flag of either of those countries. I would give my life to defend the country I live in.

ok i've heard a lot of people say what your saying a lot of times.yet when i asked what being american was i didn't get much answers.so mind telling me what that means?I mean as far as me I did come here illegally,my parents and myself got citizenship when regan passed the amnesty act. Both my parents worked hard (mom having two jobs wich she currently still has) and never once were on welfare or any type of governmental assistance. They learned english but did teach me spanish growing up,so i know both languages.they never had 10 kids like many on here claim all mexicans do.I celebrate cinco de mayo and dia de los muertos (day of the dead) with my family and friends that wish to join us.And yet I also celebrate 4th of july and thanksgiving with friends and some family members.I listen to country music and yet also like listen to mexican music. So yeah mind telling me what I should do to be as you say American.

With all due respect, you don't know what you are talking about. Americans burn more flags in protest than any immigrant ever did. Most who come try to embrace this country as much as they are allowed to.

Beats the heck out of me? I say if you don't like to speak ENGLISH and don't like the freedom we enjoy stay where you are at or go to Afganstan, they might want you, or Iraq, that way you can get your head chopped off just for the fun of it. I don't want anyone to come to this country that isn't ready to obey our laws. It's hard to be an American? you have to speak English and do the things you want, as long as it is within the law. They (Americans) don't believe in robbing banks or killing innosent bystanders, MOST of us like one another, but we also don't take kindly to picking on another country that is unable to defend or protect itself. You have a nice day and I hope to meet you someday and discuss our great country called AMERICA.
