If you call your veterinarian's office, they will tell you. ;-)
Ideally, it's best for newborns to be seen the day after they're born, then at 2,4,6, and 8 weeks of age. At that point, the new owner will take over and continue on with basic puppy and adolescent care with his/her own DVM.
They can't be tested or treated for intestinal parasites until 2 weeks of age (and they can't be tested for heartworms until 6 MONTHS of age), but there are several other things that need to be checked for at birth, which requires only a physical exam. Vaccines are not always started at 6 weeks of age...it depends on where you live. Your DVM will tell you when that needs to be done, and when you need to start heartworm prevention (Anywhere between 4-8 weeks, depending on the situation.)
It's also important to take the mother in for a routine postpartum checkup the day after the pups are born....for many reasons.
There's a world of information to be learned from your veterinarian. If you love animals, it's a fun place where there are fun people to hang out with, too. :-)
Please call and make that appointment today.

The first appointment should be the day you are bringing your new puppy home. Some people think these visits are just for 'shots,' but there are many different reasons why you would want to go before the shot, heart worms, grooming, brushing teeth, flea and tick control , housetraining and parasites controll,

The vet and pinkpiggi are both right.
If your dog has the puppies take them ASAP. I had cocker spaniel pups and they had to have their tails docked before they were three days old. My vet also wanted to see the mother.
Pinkpiggi is right. If you get a puppy or any pet you take it to the vet asap.

As soon as possible after birth but definately before they are sent home with the new owners. They need to be checked for heart worms which they can be born with and for any other health or skeletal problems. Vaccines start at 6 weeks of age.
