Both can be very good guard dogs but rottweilers are more prone to naturally guarding the home and family. My sister used to breed rottweilers and they were as sweet as sweet could be and they did not train them as guard dogs but lo and behold, the water man came to check the meter without telling her and got bit because her son was in the backyard at the time. Zeus had never bitten before but her son had never been outside during the checks either. (No charges weren't pressed, the meter man knew he was supposed to notify the owner he was there before checking so his own fault really) She also has 2 pit bulls. they let anyone and everyone come in the yard because they weren't trained to guard. I know they can be but she neevr trained them that way because she didn't want them aggressive.

opinion? rottweiler.

although they may seem similar in some ways, the pitbull is perhaps the kindest towards humans (not to dogs though). the rottweiler on the other hand is a very good guard dog.

pitbulls which are reported to have attacked humans have been horribly treated by their previous owner. i really hope that the pitbull's reputation wouldn't be so attacked.. like the others say, they're real sweet..

I'd probably say that a Rottweiler would be a better guard dog. Pitbulls have a horrible reputation, but every one that I've ever met has been a sweet baby.

A Rottie, but any dog that barks and warns off intruders is a good guard dog.

Take a look at the Portuguese Water Dog---with its curly hair it looks way too cute to be a guard dog---but it was bred by Portuguese Fishermen to help them fish and GUARD their boats.

It depends on how you train them, I hear Rottweilers make a better guard dog. I have two pitbulls who are sweet big babies and are ruled by my toy poodle LOL!!!

The doberman is the better guard dog. It's the only one out to be bred specifically for guarding of property and humans. Rotties and pitts were bred to be around livestock.

all dogs are good, depends on the owner, but my preference would be rottweiler, and a very well trained one at that

Neither really, I have expirenced in the past that rottwielers are only mean dogs if you treat them cruel, I dont think you want that, In the past I have had Doberman Pinschers And German Shorthaired Pointers, They are both big and bold and NEVER wimps And they are both quick learners.

rotty - pit will walk off with anyone. they are the most stolen dog because of their non-aggression to humans, but if trained incorrectly can be aggressive to animals.
