Long distance romantic relationships tend to have a harder time. However long distance friendships tend to do quite well. Relationships that start like friendships tend to last longer.
So I would suggest using this time to build a friendship and see what develops without the pressures of a committed relationship. Plus he'll be forced to get to know the real you!
Good LUCK!

Maybe be a little more than friends from the beginning but make sure that he is no going to die when you leave. Also tell him how you feel and the whole situation so he knows what to expect from the start. I am so sorry for you this must be very hard. I wish you both the best of luck.

if you are going in January there is still time see if he wants to come ( but that might only work if you r going alone) if you r going with family than just call your mom and c if he can come if she says no just tell him " I already asked and they said no, But i can call you alot " and then just call , e-mail,text message , write letters , or IM .
hope i helped
