The sad truth is that 1-2 pounds per week is the safe weight loss amount.

The other sad truth is that the only way to lose it is through diet and exercise. Even gastric bypass patients eat less and exercise more - it's part of the program.

On average, you can expect to lose up to 2lbs a week and maybe a couple of extra pounds in the first week. There are so many factors which can change that figure but remember this; there is a BIG difference between losing weight and losing fat. It's quite easy to drop several pounds but chances are it'll be mostly water and (possibly) muscle which weighs more than fat and is something you want to maintain as much as possible! I hope this helps and wish you all the best however please be sure to consult a medical professional before starting any diet and/or fitness plan.

It really depends on how overweight a person is. For the average person, the safe amount is 1-2 pounds a week. If you create more than a 7,000 calorie deficit in a week (2 lbs worth), it starts to mess with your metabolism and the functioning of your body.

Reputable dietician and physicians recommend no more than one to two pounds in one week.

The problem with diets is...they don't work. You have to learn how to reprogram yourself and your eating habits. If you lose too much weight too quickly, it will eventually be gained back and with extra pounds to boot!

Why do you think there are hundreds of diets and "miracle" drugs out on the market? Because...DIETS DON"T WORK and people need to make money/living off of those who are willing to try anything rather than exercise and develop healthy eating habits.

It is a know fact that 75% of people start diets without the advice of their physicians or a dietician and the majority of those people fail over and over again.

2-3 pounds a week - at that rate the weight is most likely to stay off because if you lose too much too fast it will just come back
