Don't make a big fuss as it will make the dog worse. Close the curtains, put the tv or radio on quite loudly to mask the noise and act normal, going about your buisness. Let your dog hide or cuddle up to you if that makes it feel a bit better. Stay with it until the fireworks die down.

I was given Aconite tabs for my dogs. I gave her one at 5 in the afternoon, another 2 at about 7. She seemed much calmer but that could also be that both my dogs were in the lounge with us , she was covered with a blanket and stayed calm while we were there but the minute i went for a bath she got distressed. My dogs would not go outside for a wee, so from 6 in the evening till 2 in the morning they refused to go outside. I had to stay with both of them all that time and i am still tired. I hate fireworks. My dogs are not stupid the minute they hear a hissing sound and sees a flash in the sky they get upset, so the sight of fireworks does upset dogs. Those who says it does not probably believe fish feels no pain either.

Give it calmatives before you set off fireworks, or keep it indoors and out of the dogs contact.

You can't. It is loud to their ears just like a dog that is scared of thunderstorms. Benadryl is what I give my dog on the holidays that have fireworks. It really does help.

how often is this a problem? if your worried about once a year celebrations, i wouldn't worry so much. just be there for him and comfort him. i don't know if you can get him some ear muffs. or if he's really frantic ask your vet for a mild sedative. we have a 140 lb dog that freaks during thunderstorms. when we first got jake he'd rock back and forth, pounding his head into the walls. we had to sit on him to keep him from hurting himself and the walls. now he paces back and forth and pants alot while trying to herd us all (2 people, 4 dogs, and 2 cats) into one room. but he's 11 now.

Make a recording of fireworks and play them everyday eventually he will get used to the noise and not be bothered.

If you act scared and distressed then the dog will take its lead from you, the pack leader. Act as normal as possible.

If our pup starts to get a bit nervous then I go out into the graden with her , playing and talking to het to reasure her.

We just ignored the noise and gradually our dog got used to it. If you make a big thing of it the dog gets progressively worse

Vets sell a CD of fireworks, that you can use to acclimatise your dog to the noise.

Keep him indoors, preferably with the curtains drawn and possible music playing for company.
