My fiancé and I are not very traditional people so we've decided to throw out most of the wedding traditions. The white wedding dress is one of the traditions that is being thrown out the window. Burgundy is my favorite color so I'm pretty set on having a burgundy/wine colored wedding dress. I've looked at bridesmaid dresses and they just won't cut it for me - I want it to really look like a wedding dress.

If I had more sewing experience, I would likely just make it. In fact, if I can't find something that I would be happy with, I will probably make an attempt at making it despite my lack of knowledge in this department. But that's a last resort kind of thing - I would really prefer to find one already made.

So, really, I have two questions which are associated...

Can anyone direct me to some web sites with burgundy/wine colored wedding gowns?

or, if not,

Can anyone give me information (book titles, web sites, just general tips) on how I could make my own wedding dress?

I have looked on ebay and most of the local shops only do more traditional wedding dresses. I have not tried the classified ads, however... thanks for the suggestion.

Try finding a dress you love and getting it dyed the color you want. It would be much easier for you to get a swatch of the color you want and taking it with you. Most alteration and cleaners will do it.
But first give them a sample of the fabric you want done before they do your dress.

:) Happy Wedding

Go to your local formal dress store and order one...this way you get what you want in the color you want and you wont be stuck in "The Peoples Court" in three months trying to get your money back!

I can make you one if you like? What sort of fabric? Glamour? Innocence? I have worked for Vivienne Westwood. That may help. I would need your measurements and a full length photo honey too!!

You can view the dresses online, but you'll have to go into a store to purchase a dress. But they've also got a store locator tool that will help you find the store closest to you.

Good luck!

Why not just buy a white dress that you love and have them dye it for you most professional shops do that!
