To start Holly W just because some people say they aren't good it dosent mean that they haven't used them or cannot afford them! Some people may not want to may that much for a pair of straighteners because maybe they have better things to spend their money on - what a stupid comment!

I bought a pair over a year ago, they packed up within 6 months, I didn't even bother getting them fixed or a new pair, have got some babyliss pro 230 which are amazing on my hair, and i think it all depends on your hair my best friend has afro caribbean hair, she asked ghd about them for her hair, said yep they would work, they dont yet she got remington ones that work far better so much cheaper. My sister in law is a hairdresser and in their place of work use tresemme straighteners. Also I had heard through friends and lately on tv that they can blow up and last week my neighbour was using hers and they did this in her hand! Luckily she is ok, but i certainly would not trust them in my home.

Before buying my GHD, I had two others a Babyliss and a Remmington which I though did an okay job. I have curly, frizzy hair and it was hard work getting my hair to look straight and sleek. I first blow dried it straight and then used the straighteners. Someone suggested the GHD and I was a bit reluctant because they were so expensive, but eventually I bought some. I wish I had bought them earlier. I can get my hair straight and sleek without blowdrying it first and it a fraction of the time it took me before. Because I actually use them for less time than my other straighteners I'm not exposing my hair to tyhe heat for long. I swear by mine. I wish I had bought them sooner.

They truly are a religion for hair. Your hair won't burn/go brittle/dry if you use a heat styling spray, and invest in a great conditioner or treatment. In fact, my hair is in better condition now than it was when I was just blowdrying. The difference btw GHD and cheaper straighteners is that you don't need to blowdry first- simply use the GHD.

I have long hair (mid-back). To straighten from wet takes half an hour tops, from dry it takes 7 minutes. And it stays that straight until you next wash your hair!

If you get the knack, you can also use the GHD to make curls.

I couldn't live without it.

They are the best, I love them. I have had 5 or 6 sets and the GHD ones have been the best

I think they are really good for straightening hair as you don't have to go over the same piece over and over. Mine are pretty reliable compared to some Remington ones i used to have. I always use mine with Paul Mitchell super skinny hair serum to make my hair even straighter and a protection spray. But yeah, i have had no problems and i find they straighten well - even though they are pretty expensive.

They really are great! I've got very curly/frizzy hair and they get mine poker straight. However, I haven't tried any of the more recent and cheaper ceramic straighteners so maybe you should look at reviews of some of these.

GHD's are heaven sent! Most of my friends use them too and none of us could live without them!!! As for damage? use heat protector products and have regular trims and you're fine.

Fire scares can be avoided to, just unplug after you're finished!
