First of all you need a chignon bun.
Collect you hair into a ponytail and fasten. Pull the tail through the chignon, secure the chignon with a few pins. Pull the tail evenly over the bun and secure with clips or pins. It also looks very effective if you cover the bun then with a net or even a net with beads on. Takes me back to the 60-70,s

for an easy chignon, put hair into a pony, pull the hair into a bunch so it covers the band and put a band over the top to secure the hair.
for a more elegant chignon, use grips to hold the hair up, making sure the bobble is covered.
this works best the day after you've washed your hair

What you'll need: blowdryer, thickening spray, 2 ponytail holders, hairpins, gel & hairspray.
Decide what type of part you want: You can start with a side part or a center part.
Gather hair into a ponytail: You'll want to keep the ponytail low at the base of the neck.
Twist hair: Put gel on ponytail to keep it manageable & twist the hair of the ponytail.
Hope this helps...looks too hard to try on urself!!! You may need a helper!
Wrap hair around ponytail: You'll want to secure this with the other ponytail holder.
Secure chignon with hairpins: A slick of gel will keep any loose hair in place.
Spray: This will keep your hair style in place. For a younger look, let ends stick out.

It's easier to do on someone else than yourself...
have the hair in a ponytail- no band. twist the ponytail, as if you're making a bun, when it starts to fold on itself, take the end of the ponytail, while still twisting to the crown of the head. once you get it smooth, pin kirby grips into the chignon towards the fold, in a horizontal direction...
Sorry, that sounded so complicated!!

Have a look on this website www.hair-styles.org . Hair is much easier to style when it's dirty. You will also need a comb, hairspray, ponytail tie and some grips. Also it depends how long your hair is as it might not be the best style for you. Anotehr option is to ask your hairdresser to show you using a mirror so you can see what they are doing step by step
