If it old wallpaper adhesive ., You can get Dif wallpaper remover at your local DIY store, it also removes adhesive as well as wallpaper. . Use one of those pump style tank sprayers that you get in the lawn and garden section. Mix it per the directions on the Dif bottle. Spray and be patient to give the product time to work before scraping. Then take a putty knife and gently "shave" the walls , working one area at a time. It might take a couple of sprayings. Have plenty of rags to wipe of your knife! Keep a bucket of warm water handy to wash excess of Walls while the glue is still soft. Be sure to tape and plastic the floor areas , topped off with drop clothes because this is a messy job and could ruin carpet, etc.You will need to primer the walls before applying any new paint or wallpaper.!Warning! Do not use a steamer as it will warp the wallboard, and cause the anchors that are securing it to come loose. also the steam will soften the surface, and when you are scraping it will cause gouging and holes that you will have to plater and fix!!

Not sure what kind of glue you are dealing with here... the steaming suggestions sound great. If it's really hard glue and brittle, try scraping it off with a plastic bread bag tag.

BTW, they work great for scraping hard food off of dirty dishes too!

Hope this helps!
