Pit Bulls are not the problem its the people, once and for all. The reason Pit Bulls get the bad rap is that yes they do bite as all dogs the difference is they don't let go. They are a very tenacious breed, meaning very determined to do what it sets out to do. Think about it, it was bred to pit bulls which we all know are a very hard animal to control, so the dog had to be strong. But these dogs can be a great dog to own but your better be a good "pack leader" so it will follow your rules not its own. Every breed was bred for something to do for us humans, my dog is an Australian Cattle Dog another breed that is a tough. These dogs are bred to herd cattle, and so they to are very tough but with love and consistensy he is the smartest and the most loyal dog I have ever owned. But I trained him to be that way so if you want a dog any dog make sure you have the desire and patience to train it to be a loyal partner in your life.

This is to answer by Pooh, was it a puppy? If not then I can understand why it may have attacked your husband, who knows what it had been through before your husband adopted it. I would never get one from a pound because for the same reason you don't know what it has been trained.

I am tired of everyone stating things in black and white when it comes to the "pitbull". First off "pitbull" is a generic term that can, and does, represent a number of dog breed and mixes of these breeds. For you to say that pitbulls are tencious aniumals that dont let go when they bite, and are hard to control is just not true. Some may be hard to control, and some are easy, and when it comes to "not letting go"...this is a trait terriers and bulldogs have, but it will not happen when a dog bites out of fear (yes, pibull type dogs can be/are fearful), and the majority of bites are fear related. Generalizing the "pitbull" is just ignorant. These dogs are so over populated, cross bred, and just poorly bred that there is no way you can lump them all together. Some are absolute sweethearts, while some are extremely dangerous(and no this is not the majority), and it doesnt always have to do with how they are raised. Ive seen dogs come off the street within an inch of life after suffering for their entire existence and still they dont have an aggressive bone in their body. On the other hand Ive seen dogs raised by knowledgeable caring owners and still have serious aggression issues. Everyone says "you have to get a puppy, because otherwise it will turn on you". This has to be one of the most incredibly stupid things Ive ever heard (and to the person above whose ex-husband babied, then shot his dog...im sure he babied him...made him live outside though, right?). Getting a puppy of one of the most overbred & carelessy bred dog types sounds like a horrible idea to me. With such varying temperments, sizes, and health issues you try all you want but you have no idea what the dog will develop into...and dont tell me its all how you raise it....you cant just answer the nature vs. nuture argument all that easily. The fact of the matter is this. These dogs are extremely over populated and being euthanized by the millions in US shelter systmem, not because all of them are bad, but because the good homes dont want them and the bad homes dont keep them. The majority of these dogs are your average dog...thats what people dont get. And if you dont beleive this...then why arent there thousands upon thousands of attacks since these dogs are the number one stray dog in almost any urban (which makes it even more likely) area. No, not every pitbull is the sweetest dog ever and the only bad ones are ones that were abused, and no not every pitbull is some monster that is just waiting for the day to kill a baby. These are just poorly bred, over-populated, mistreated dogs some of which have the capabiltiy to severly hurt someone and unfortunately some have. I can tell you this though the torture these dogs have suffered at the hands of humans is far greater than anything pitbulls have done to people. Im tired of the myths, the fear, the idiots on here asking what they "can feed their blue pitbull puppy to make him have a huge head", the suffering, and the death. People need to stop breeding and buying these dogs. There are plenty of them and plenty of controversy.

I own a pitbull that I absolutely adore. My friends rate him as one of their mates and buy him xmas pressies too, he's just a champion. It really breaks my heart when I hear about all the bad rap that humans give these dogs and any other breed for that matter. There is a video on You Tube search for The TRUTH about pitbulls and watch it if you havent already. It will make you cry and it really does give you a good insite to what these dogs are really about. It is a brilliant video put together by a whole community of pitbull owners who wanted to show the truth about pitbulls. It is played to a song by Nicolback It is just awesome I watch it all the time and still cry. Everybody needs to see it !!!

Sure, a French Poodle bites more than a Pit Bull, but when was the last time you heard about somebody getting life threatening injuries from a French poodle? I don't think they get a bad rap at all. They were specifically bred to have strong jaws and fight, hence the name.

My husband had a pit bull when we were seperated and he had taken it in as a stray...Babied it, fed it everything. Took it for walks, you name it, he did it. To have a companion. One morning he went out to feed it. The dog did nothing but attempt to attack him, showed his teeth. He was not rabid, for he had his shots! My husband took the food back inside, got the gun and came back out, shot the dog and buried him in the pasture. I am sorry. I have read and heard too many stories on them. I warned my husband of him when he first got him for we had kids too and he spent time with them. I don't trust them. Yes all dogs has purposes here and Pit Bulls are known once they get the taste of blood it is just time before they turn. People learn by their mistakes. And alot of people seem to train their Pit Bulls to fight which is the wrong reason!

Unfortunately, they can be raised by morons hence the problem. I agree with you- people can do a lot of damage to an animal.
