The Christians should stick to THEIR Bible-- the new testament.

The Old Testament is chuck full of promises of a messiah who comes to save the Israelites from their plights. The Son of God was preordained, but none of the prophets ever said of what time this savior would appear. It might be because He decided to be born to a virgin (in a rather scandalous way) instead of marching forth from the clouds with tenscore legion of angels, but whatever the reason, Jews just didn't accept Jesus as the prophesied Savior.
For further insight, one might read Numbers 21:4-9 (wherein the Jews show off being ungrateful), Psalm 22 (yet another morose piece from an equally morose king David), and Isaiah 53 (where Isaiah prophesies that the Savior might not have as much glory as people think), and also look for where the Old Testament has those Noah begat Ham who begat Cush who begat Nimrod who begat etc. periods, they're in there for a reason (a kind of biblical count down) for some examples.

Because the first christians were Jews, so it was natural they used the Old Testament.

Because it tells of God's work before Jesus was on earth. Jews believe Jesus never came, and therefore reject the New Testament.

Because the Old Testament testifies of Christ. As Jesus Himself said to a group of non-believing Jews, "45"But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. 46If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. 47But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?" (Jn 5)
It is also written of Jesus, "He was with God in the beginning..."
