my son left a week ago today and I have yet to get a letter from them letting me know what the address is to write him.I thought I should have had it by now,how long does it usually take?Should I call his recruter? Will he have it?Or should I wait longer.

My suggestion is to wait longer. The recruiter won't have any answers for you. Although the unit and command try to stay on top of things, the first weeks of BCT are hectic and things like letters home are delayed. I would say that after he's been there 2-3 weeks, you'll get your letter with his address and the graduation date and location. Sometimes, if a class isn't full enough, they have to wait a few days at the reception station before they move onto their BCT location and unit. Don't worry. He's fine and they're taking good care of him. The unit WILL contact you with all the info you need. How often you hear from your son will depend on how busy and how tired he is. They don't get much personal time at all.

Good luck to him and please support him in every way.

When my husband was there it took about 3-4 weeks to get a letter with an address to write back to. But it was probably about a week and a half to 2 weeks before I got a letter at all. Don't bother with the recruiter b/c he won't have your son's address. Unfortunately one thing you have to learn with the army is how to wait (and wait and often wait some more!) Just try to be patient (though I know that's hard to do!) Hope you get a letter soon! ;-)

You should be receiving a letter very soon. I took my training at Ft. Benning in 1992. Our first week was spent at the reception area where we got our uniforms, shots, and paperwork out of the way. The reception center is does not receive mail, because they are there only about a week, maybe a little longer if their Physical Fitness score is a little low. After the week was up, we got shipped off down range to where we would spend the rest of our training. On day one when we arrived at our training company, out Drill Sgt. had us all send a letter to our parents with our mailing address on them.
