It works just like a regular piano except you can pick a tone for it to be in.
If you're just beginning you should find like a beginner's piano book. Or, you can get one of those "Teach Yourself" tapes or DVDs. That's how I learned to play the guitar, by a DVD.

It depends upon the model. Some of them have accompaniment options that are fun. You hold down one bass key for major chord accompaniment, two keys for minor, three keys for dominant 7th and 4 keys for minor 7th. The bottom key has to be the root (e.g. an F for an F-chord, a C for a C-chord) but the other keys can be anything to make the minor & 7th changes. For example, hold down a low C and any three keys above it to have accompaniement with C-minor 7th. THe accompaniement style changes according to the rhythmn selected.
