I am ashamed that I even have to ask the question. But I have been going through bouts of paranoid for the past few months and I think if I don't seek help I might end up in the looney farm.

So I just need to know, does going to a pyschologist works? Or maybe I should invest my time in meditation or picking up a religion? Because I have been to see a pyschologist once, but when I see him I just dun feel secure in confinding in him.

Can anybody whose being through this help? I dun want to end up a crazy person.

do not be ashamed
realizing your problem is half the battle
you will not wind up in a loony bin
you want help and are intelligent enough to admit it
you need to see a psychiatrist who is a medical doctor and can prescribe medication for you
a psychologist is trained to help you cope but is not a medical doctor and cannot prescribe medication
find a support group
sometimes talking to others helps you to understand you are not alone in these matters
a psychiatrist is trained - has heard it all and will not be shocked by anything you say and will not judge you
if you do not feel secure with your therapist find one you are comfortable with
but remember
your paranoid feelings may be the reason you do not feel comfortable confiding in anyone
meditation or religion are fine but you have a medical condition that thousands of people have and learn to cope with
so you need medical help
i wish you all the best
you are a good person never forget that or let anyone tell you to the contrary
you cannot cure it but can manage it by treatment

I think medicines are the most effective treatment of paranoia, but therapy may help a bit too. The problem with paranoia is that the patient rarely trusts professionals enough to accept treatment. It can be very tricky to deal with paranoia.

If you can get yourself to see a psychiatrist and accept medicines, then I encourage you to do that to begin with. Then later on when the medicines are working it may do you good to see a psychologist too (depends on what the doctor recommends). Some therapy may be useful for you. Paranoia is sometimes a part of another illness/disorder and therapy can be a good way to treat other symptoms.

I've been in your shoes (I have paranoid personality disorder), so I know it's a tricky problem, but I wish you all the best and hope you can seek help before your problem gets worse.

you need to see a psychiatrist. most people who suffer from paranoid thoughts is caused by an organic illness, that usually responds well to medication. you need to be truthfull with your doctor or he can not help you. most people have paranoid thoughts from one time or another, that is normal. such as being paranoid walking down a dark alley, what is not normal is having unfounded thoughts of paranoia and when these thoughts make your life miserable, unfuntional, and is interfering with your life, then it becomes a problem. if your doctor tells you u do not have a mental illness, but your thoughts are bothering you, then he could recommend a psychologist, or therapist, to get at the basis of your paranoia.

Unfortunately, I share the boat we're sinking in.

I'm not full out paranoid. I just believe that safety is a myth, and there's always the off chance some otherworldy demon-semblance will confront me. I'm always alert for attacks, corporeal and ethereal, and I *have* talked to my close friends about it. They think I'm joking, and tease me about it. I think I have dodgy friends in that regard.

I guess a change of mentality is the cure for paranoia. You have to be able to feel safe and secure. A psychologist can help you there, or maybe if you just stop scaring yourself, and stop telling yourself there's something to be scared of, perhaps you'll be able to deal with it yourself. I'd definitely recommend professional, psychological help though.

I have social anxiety disorder and amd Bipolar and yes I have paranoia with it.

If you don't feel comfortable with your therapist you could do one of two things.

You could ask for a new therapist or you could engage the help of a Psychiatrist who can help you if you don't mind taking medication. Life is to short to be running around paranoid. Please see a Psychiatrist for some help. You will be glad that you did in the long run.

I don't cure this, but a psychologist and psychiatrist can help with this.
One thing to keep in mind is this: Just because you think people are out to get you doesn't mean that they arent!

The psychologist can help figure out a good response to the problem with you. If it is something that you are doing to cause people to react differently to you, then you can see that and work with it.

Just realize that you are not the most important person in the world. (And that is a good thing!)

Meditate on that for an hour each day. (giggles)

But seriously, that's all you need to internalize. Lie to yourself for a while, eventually the auto-suggestion will work and you'll see the truth.

talk to close friends (those whom you really trust) and try explaining where and when did this feeling started...the fact that you think something is wrong with you is already a big step to finding out a cure for you. if talking doesn't help then it's time to seek professional help. try counselling centers first then doctors if these still fails. hang in there!
